Wondering what awaits Spidey and his worldcome 2012? Many announcements were madein Spider-Man’s home city of New York this weekend that gave us a glimpse ofwhat’s to come. Here’s a handy list of themajor announcements:

NewYork Destroyed

A lone teaser image shown at the New YorkComic Con revealed that things aren’t getting any easier for Spider-Man or hiscity next year.

First Spider Island, now this? That's it! I'm moving to Dayton!

Plus: Dan Slott said thatAmazing Spider-Man #676 will focus solely on the Sinister Six, and expect theLizard to make an appearance in 2012 just in time for the Amazing Spider-Man movie.

Avenging Spider-Man goes Digital

Marvel will be giving out a free code to downloada digital copy of Avenging Spider-Man #1 to everyone who buys the printcopy. Depending on how many peopleactually download the book, Marvel might extend this offer to othertitles. Pretty nifty if you want to rereadyour comics without taking them out of the bag, though I still prefer paper.

Symbiotes

Crossoverwith Daredevil

Amazing Spider-Man will be sharing a storywith Mark Waid’s Daredevil in January. Writtenby Waid and illustrated by Emma Rios and Kano, the story will run throughAmazing Spider-Man #677 and Daredevil #7 and feature the return of the BlackCat. Given Waid’s Brand New Day work andhow awesome Daredevil has been as of late, I’m pretty excited about this.

And Finally...

Wacker stated that soon Amazing Spider-Man will have the tagline "World's Greatest Super Hero" similar to the Fantastic Four's "World's Greates Comics Magazine." About time.

Venom #1

In life, there is a tendency to put certain labels on people. What we think of a person is, a lot of the time, decided within the first few minutes of meeting them. He’s a nerd, she’s easy, she’s smart, and he’s dumb. But human beings are much more complex than that, they are never only one thing; that is a lesson most people learn in life. In media however, it sometimes seems that people forget this and create characters as a means to an end. A big, dumb jock is needed, a character is created to fit that mould and remains in that mould forever more. This is particularly true of side characters, Eugene “Flash” Thompson has stood the test of time because he is the opposite of this. Flash is a war hero and an alcoholic. He went from being tormentor in chief for “Puny” Parker to being Peter’s best man. He has as many complexities and contradictions as any lead character. Now, after five decades as a side man, he finally gets his greatest wish; he’s Spider-Man.

Actually, he’s in the suit of one of Spidey’s greatest enemies, the symbiotic alien Venom.

After the suit is forcibly removed from it’s previous host Mac Gargan, the US Government decide to use it to create a new Black Ops super solider. The first choice lost control of the suit and had to be killed; Flash is drafted in as his replacement. The same fate awaits him if ever he loses control. Flash is unconcerned. This is his chance to be a hero; just like Spider-Man.

In Flash’s mind there are obvious parallels between himself and the web slinger, what he doesn’t know are the parallels between him and Peter Parker. It has long been a corner stone of the stories that Peter Parker must suffer so that Spider-Man can do his job. Flash too must suffer. He has recently re-entered a relationship with Betty Brant, who is already suspicious that he has taken to the bottle again. But the more striking parallel is how Rick Remender reminds us that as much as Peter is defined by Uncle Ben, Flash is defined by his father. Flash’s father was also an alcoholic who would beat him as a child. He was a cop, a good one, but with a demon inside him. Just like Flash carries Venom inside him.

The fact that Flash is an addict is given special attention to in this issue. He’s tempted to drink to escape his troubles. Flash has a limited amount of time in the suit, 48 hours at one time and a limited amount of missions. One has to ask how a man addicted to alcohol will react when the power of the Venom suit is taken away and he is left a cripple.

A promising start from Remender and Tony Moore, who have taken a great side character and made a star.

New Avengers V.2 # 8

Ever since Volume 2 of The New Avengers launched this past summer it has quietly surpassed Ultimate Spider-Man as the best Bendis book. The book has all you want from an Avengers title, the big action, entire sections of New York being destroyed in seconds and the cost of failure being extremely high. But what separates it from it's sister title, The Avengers, is the relationship between Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, it is this relationship that takes up the majority of this issue.

The Story
Jessica Jones was a superhero, in her mind she was not very good at the job. In the lasts few months her feet have been getting itchier by the second but her role as a new mother has been stopping her from donning the spandex again. Luke decides that it's time for them to have a real talk about it and takes her out to dinner, their first date despite being married.
Marvel Comics and their heroes have always been based in the real world, while they have extraordinary abilities their reaction to those abilities have always been ordinary; Peter Parker tries to make money of his, Johnny Storm uses his to get girls, Ben Grimm is always, at least in part, tormented by his appearance and the dangers they face and the ramifications of those dangers have always been portrayed as a very real thing. Luke Cage has unbreakable skin, she does not, the potential for her to die and her baby to grow up without her mother is treated with the respect that the idea deserves. But it is also her baby that makes her want to be a hero again, how can one teach their children to always do what's right when you stand on the sidelines and watch people suffer who you could help?
Their conversation is interrupted by an egg like ship crashing down on the streets of Manhattan, carrying Ms Marvel with it. Out of the egg comes Dr. Doom or, as revealed later, a Doombot. After a brief fight the bot is defeated, revealing information that Doom's position as Monarch in his country may be under threat, a plot that will feature heavily in a future arc no doubt.

Thoughts
A special mention must be given to Daniel Acuña's art. There are many artists who can draw a fantastic battle scene like the one between Luke, Jessica, Ms Marvel and the Doombot, not many can take two people sitting at a table talking look interesting. Bendis dialogue is, as ever, great, but that only gets you so far in a visual medium, the artist has to do the rest.

Amazing Spider-Man 617

Amazing Spider-Man 617 was far above any expectations. Judging from the preview, the story did not seem all that fantastic. Similarly, the art, although not disgusting, was not impressive either. The finals stroke that caused the lack of expectation was the villain in hte issue - the Rhino.

As many can agree, the Rhino has never been the greatest threat, and like Electro, majority of his stories have not been too interesting. This story however is mind blasting, and is worth reading. The comic is split into two, related stories.

So, what is this story all about?

The Story

To save myself some time, I suggest you take a look at the preview for this issue before continuing to read. The preview ends with Peter Parker having a nightmare and being told by Michelle that she forgot to wake him early as was asked to.

Spider-Man is then seen swinging in the cold, over what used to be the DB, to the Frontline ( his current working place. ) His boss, Ben Urich, offers Peter a full time job at the Frontline with a higher pay, due to increased business resulting from the destruction of the DB. Norah overhears the conversation and book Peter as her photographer.

Elsewhere the a figure shaped like the Rhino is seen staring at images of Spider-man fighting the Rhino. Over the phone, a person asks if he is ready to ascend.

Peter and Norah end up at a casino where Norah manages to win some big bucks. The relationship between Peter and Norah goes on as she constantly flirts with him as she has been doing in the past issues.

While at the casino, the two bump into the Rhino, without his suit. Peter learns that the Rhino, aka, Sytsevich, ( his real name) now works a decent job at the casino as a bouncer. As Peter ponders on how he can change to Spider-Man and keep Norah safe, another cool suited Rhino breaks into the building demanding a fight with Sytsevich.

At the right moment, Peter finds some space to get changed and interferes in the discussion between the two Rhinos. Annoyed that Sytsevich will not fight, he throws a live horse at him. The Rhino is then seen with blood and bits of horse all over his only good work suit. The new Rhino then walks off giving the old Rhino time to prepare and suit up.

After filing a police report, Sytsevich is next seen at nite preparing to suit up. Spider-Man, however is able to convince him not to. The story ends with the new Rhino furious that there was no fight between him and the original. It is later revealed that the person on the other side of the phone in this new Rhino's hideout is none other than the Kraven Family.

The Second Story

This story fills in the gap for readers wondering how the Rhino became good and found a wife. It is a simple, yet touching story. The Rhino essentially surrenders himself. His skin is then surgically removed by S.H.I.E.L.D. After pleading guilty to all crimes, he is sentenced to 25 years in prison. Due to extreme coorperation throughout his term, including not escaping when given the opportunity, he is released early, not even serving a fraction of his sentence.

His first stop outside of prison is a small restaurant where he meets a friendly waitress. The waitress explains how many convicts come to that restaurant and majority of them fall in love with her as she is the first women they have seen in years. Not wanting to hear anything about love, the Rhino leaves the restaurant.

He then tries to find an honest job, but fails miserably due to his criminal record. As he is about to resort to returning to crime, he sees the waitress who first served him at the restaurant. After s short conversation with the girl, he changes his mind about returning to crime and buys the girl some dinner.

Personal Thoughts
Overall, an awesome story line that was completely uncalled for. The issue could be a whole lot better with better art. In fact, I believe that it is possible to like Norah as a character, if it wasn't for the lame art in almost every issue she appears in.

Peter Parker's personal life once again becomes even more messed. Aleksei Sytsevich aka the real Rhino, has made tremendous steps to change since Brand New Day. Essentially, this is a great issue to the new year.

Amazing Spider-Man # 616

The Spider-Man vs Sandman story comes to an end here as we learn some very interesting facts about Sandman in this issue. Unlike how I predicted in Amazing Spider-Man 615, Mysterio plays absolutely no part in this issue. Overall, I must say that this story is the best story in the Gauntlet series that has taken place so far.

The story

In the preview we see that Spider-Man is caught and imprisoned inside Sandman, who has taken the form of a giant sand castle. The preview ends with Spider-Man trying to convince Keemia to let her go, promising her that he will not take her away from her 'Kingdom.'

One of the aspects that makes this issue enjoyable is that it paints a slightly different picture in that Spider-Man is seen as a bad guy, at least in the eyes of the innocent little girl. As the story goes on, Spider-Man is obviously compelled to break his promise to the little girl.

We learn in this issue that Sandman, while still asleep, unconsciously does anything that Keemia tells him to. While Sandman pursues his daughter, we find out a number of interesting facts. For one thing, Keemia is not is biological daughter at all. Instead she was just a girl who happened to call her daddy one day. To a criminal like himself he found that very touching. He now wants nothing more but to be with her and make her happy.

The story of Sandman is always a sad one. The other thing we learn is that, although Sandman is able to split himself into many, he is unable to control each one of them. It is later revealed that one of his personalities murdered Keemia's mother. The Sandmen battle one another as Spider-Man conveniently escapes. Spider-Man also finds out how Sandman, although vunerable to water, is able to cross from the island to the mainland.

At the end of the issue, Keemia never gets to see her grandmother as Spider-Man promised. She is instead sent to a foster home and bullied by others. Peter is later seen with Carlie in a slightly romantic scene, half regretting ever taking Keemia away from Sandman.

Overall a very good issue in my opinion. Hope to see more stories like this in the future.

Amazing Spider-Man 615

Once again this review is up a few days late. Amazing Spider-Man 615 is certainly the best Spider-Man story ever since Amazing Spider-man 611. Just like in the Spider-Man 3 movie, and the current daily newspaper strip Spider-Man comics, issue 615 features Sandman aka Flink Marko.

Due him being featured in both the movie and the current newspaper comics, anyone who knows anything about Spider-man would certainly know Sandman. As depicted in the movie and newspaper strips, Sandman is not really a true brutal killer. This is also true in the Amazing Spider-man comics.

The story

As can be seen in the preview, the comic features a special little girl named Keemia. In the preview, Peter is also seen, being asked to take photos at a crime lab where Carlie Cooper is being blamed for lab irregularities. Carlie, for those who do not know was, at one point a potential love interest for Peter Parker, after One More Day.

Carlie explains to Peter how there were three murder weapons that were sealed in secured lockers were missing. To top it off, the security cameras showed no one entering or leaving the room. Peter inspects the locker and finds some grains of sand in there.

Spider-man decides to do some undercover work himself and finds out some background on Alma Alvarado, the first murder victim. Strangely enough this lady has apparently been keeping pictures of all Spider-man's enemies as seen below.

He later learns that this lady's daughter has been missing since her death. Her daughter, Keemia, was building a snowman, along with some friends, when the snowman came to life and told her she was a princess and that she was to be taken to her kingdom.

Spider-Man learned that this Alma character had a thing for jailbirds - explaining all the pictures pinned up on her mirror. The story goes on as Spider-man draws some connections between the three murders, with some help from Betty Brant. He concludes that Sandman was behind all the murders and for some reason decided to kidnap Keemia.

Sandman is eventually tracked down and the two battle. Spider-Man, again using his fantastic brain, sprays some acidic webbing on Sandman causing him to dissolve. Unfortunately, the Sandman reveals that he himself has some new tricks up his sleeve as well.

Personal Thoughts

During the fight, Sandman repeatedly mentioned that he knew nothing about any murders. My guess is that this Alma, had some affairs with a number of her 'jailed penpals.' Obviously, Sandman was not the one who killed her, or the other two connected victims. Chances are pretty high that we have two villains in this picture, one of whom is not yet known to the readers.

Sandman probably thinks Keemia is his daughter, and decided to take her someplace away to be with her. Unknown to him, two other murder victims, related to Alma has taken place. This theory however does not support the fact that some grains of sand was found in the locker.

As such, here is my explanation. Could it be possible that the next hidden character, still unknown to us readers is none other than Mysterio. Mysterio would also be capable of getting past security cameras and stealing the murder weapons. It is more that likely that he intentionally left some grains of sand there as well.

Furthermore, the Web of Spider-Man 4 issue will feature Mysterio. Anyhow, I absolutely loved this issue. It leaves many possibilities and unanswered questions. I rate it 6/10.

Amazing Spider-man 614

Another late review, due to some other life things that have occurred. This issue essentially concluded Electro's short term reign as an actual threat to the Spidey-verse. In this conclusion, Electro actually makes a mark in history that will not be easily forgotten - destroying the Daily Bugle.

The story

The preview leaves with Spider-man awoken from the blast by Electro is Amazing Spider-Man 613, only to run back into the fire to look for some clue of some sort that just might help him take down Electro.

In the next scene we see Dexter Bennet, yelling at the top of his voice to all his employees to evacuate the DB. Upon trying to get out however, the employees find out that the whole building its electrified. As such, none of them can get out and are all trapped inside the building. Similarly, no one is allowed from the outside to go in either.

On the outside, J. Jonah Jameson, former owner of the Daily Bugle / DB, and current mayor of New York City, is complaining to himself and everyone around him about the situation with no conclusion as to what should be done.

Just then, Spider-man appears with the perfect plan, that is not revealed. He does however require the assistance of the Jameson's Anti Spidey squad.

Inside the building, Electro is searching for Dexter, still furious about him stealing from the public. As is very much expected, Spider-man comes in the nick of time to save Bennet.

As the two battle, the scene is shifted underground where the Anti Spider-squad is cutting off the electrical power supply for the whole building. I must say, I saw this coming from mile away. Everything that happens from this point on was absolutely not expected.

From outside the building Jameson watches as his building is being torn apart by Electrical blows fired at Spider-man. Some very cool scenes throughout the fight include Electro disappearing into a power plug supply and appearing elsewhere, and Spider-man revealing that he had upgraded his webbing so Electro could no longer conduct himself along the webbing.

In the meantime, Jameson is making his way into his beloved building, somehow intending to stop the fight before his building gets destroyed. Bennet is more than happy to lead Jameson to the fight, hoping for the mayor to die in it.

As the first of a number of unexpected things to happen next, the ceiling above Bennet falls, just as Jameson has moved out of the way. Bennet is crushed under the rubble as Spider-man and Electro fight above him.

With no time to loose, Spider-man carries Bennet as he and Jameson make a run out the building. The entire DB is then reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds, and for a moment, it appears as though Jameson is caught in a trance.

The story ends with Electro, being led to him cell by a guard, who turns out to be the Chameleon. Inside, the prison, we see Sasha Kraven inviting Electro to join their hunt against Spider-man.

Personal Thoughts

Overall an average issue, which in my opinion is fantastic compared to the last couple of issues. The story is filled with the unexpected, which contributes to a better story. The art however, still remains constant and is not to my liking. With the Daily Bugle destroyed, and Dexter Bennet probably out of the picture for some time, it is possible that Jameson may step down as mayor some time soon, and return to his newspaper business.

Two things could happen as a result of the destruction of the DB.

Jameson rebuilds it and becomes as cocky as ever
Jameson changes his attitude towards everyone, and becomes a new man

These are just my personal opinions which may not happen at all. Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see what the outcome of this issue will be for J. Jonah Jameson Jr.

Incredible Hercules 138

I have contemplated several times on whether or not I should review this issue. The issue primarily revolves around Hercules and involves very little of Spider-man. Quite expected actually. Nonetheless.

As we know Spider-man was quite involved in the prologue to this issue ( Assault on New Olympus # 1 Partial review). In the prologue, it is learned that Hera, wife of Zeus, who is now a little child, is planning to wipe out the iron age of humanity. Apparently, humans have been wiped out and forced to restart civilization several times already.

Athena, Hercules sister has been trying to round up some allies to take Hera down. The panel below explains everything clearly.

In issue 138, Athena explains to Amadeus Cho. That this battle will claim Hercules' life, and that he must arise as the next Prince of Power. Amadeus, not wanting to let Herc down, refuses to believe this and is determined to ensure Hercules' survival. Being the 7th smartest person in the world, Amadeus devises his plan to take down Hera. At one point he actually tries to warn Hercules and tries to give him some water he stole from the River Lithe. See right.

Hercules is however too proud to think anything would happen to him. The plan is later unveiled as Hebe, along with all brother's and sister's are called to meet with Hera. Hera explains her plan to Hebe, who already knows it, only to hear from the 'all seeing eye' that Hebe is a traitor. Hera blasts her daughter into the ground. An ambulance later comes carrying Hercules, the Avengers, and etc.

We find out that Ares, Hera's strongest son, will not be joining her in the fight as he is being seduced by Aphrodite. Good trick.

Toward the end of the issue, we see the god of death appearing stating that he will claim one of their lives in the war.

Something interesting

Apparently in Marvel Comics, the Olympian gods aren't really gods, but simply almost equal to our superhero's. Read this two panels below. Pretty interesting. it certainly makes the battle easier, else if they truly were gods, its impossible to fight them.

Overall, this story proves to be very interesting. Definitely worth buying. I am unsure however if I should continue to review this comic as it is not really related to Spider-man. What do you think? Thanks for reading. -bulletproofsponge

Ms Marvel 47

The Amazing Spider-date. That was the title for this issue. Peter Parker's P.O.V, which has been missing in recent Amazing Spider-man comics has somehow been transferred here to the Ms. Marvel issue. See Below:

The story
It starts with Spider-man teaming up with Ms Marvel ( Carol Danvers ) to stop a simple robber, who just robbed a bank alone, by himself. He almost manages to escape thanks to his high tech gear. Unfortunately for him, Ms Marvel can fly.

The meaningless intro ends with Ms Marvel telling Spidey to change into his civilian clothes as they're about to go on that date she owes him. Carol, fully prepared that Peter would not have any money to take her out, decides to take him out instead to a fancy dining restaurant.

The two talk briefly about their arch enemies, and Carol mentions Mystique. Ironic since we know that Mystique will be featured in the final Ms Marvel issue. Sad.

After that, there is struggle for any conversation until Peter's Spider-sense starts tingling. Two hired guns, who were spying on Carol came breaking in trying to capture Ms Marvel. They each take one on easily, Peter still having his expensive food in his hand.

After turning in the baddies, the two fly off - well Spidey gets carried, and look for something else to eat. They get a hot dog and sit on the roof, over looking the city talking. In a moment of truth, Carol mentions that she very much prefers junk food, but didn't want Peter to think she had bad taste in food. See Below:

Personal Thoughts

The story in this issue is nothing out of the ordinary. As expected, the issue simply highlights the relationship between Ms Marvel and Spidey. The art changes several times in the comic. Thankfully, the art here is pretty good in my opinion. Nothing like the vertigo art, or even the little manga type art in ASM 611. Notice the panels I selected to show in this review all have different artists. Overall a very simple issue, simple story, yet likable.

As far as what can be developed from the Spidey/Ms Marvel relationship - probably nothing in my opinion. Nonetheless, the two will share this moment together for a long time. My guess is that if anything should happen to Ms Marvel in the coming issues, Peter will probably remember her advice over dinner, and look into investing what money has to overcome his financial issues.

Amazing Spider-man 613

From the preview, we know that Amazing Spider-man 613, continues exactly where ASM 612 left off, with the exact same art style. The last scene in the preview shows Spider-man has escaped the angry mob and changed back into simple old Peter Parker.

We also see that poor Electro is seriously suffering from his own powers and is seeking a cure from the Thinker.

The story

Electro, in desperate need for money in order to pay for treatment to cure himself, is blackmailing Dexter Bennet, owner of the DB - 'give me money or you die.'

Electro succeeds in getting the required amount of money from Dexter and heads to the Thinker's base for treatment. That night, Peter Parker returned to his apartment staying up all night inventing an 'Electro tracer.'

I must mention that the story here is nothing all that impressive. As such it is not surprising that Spider-man tracks Electro down, just as he is being upgraded into Electro 2.0. As if Spider-man's timing is ever better, he comes in just at the right moment to disrupt the machine, making Electro an extremely powerful source of electricity. The Thinker and his associate manage to escape without being noticed.

The story ends with Electro posting another video on YouTube. Encouraging the public to turn on every light in the city to give him enough power to bring down Dexter Bennet and the DB. It is at this point that readers, I suppose, will stop feeling sorry for poor old Electro and will begin reading more about the Electro they have grown up reading about.

Personal Thoughts

In the past 11 issues or so, there have been meaningless glimpses of Aunt May and Jonah Jameson Sr. appearing every now and then. This is one of those issues in which they appear for a short period, adding no value to the story line. They appear, hoping to surprise Peter, only to be greeted by a barbaric looking Michelle, who is not impressed to see Peter's aunt.

Regarding Dexter Bennet, I understand that Dexter Bennet was in no position to negotiate terms when Electro broke into his house to 'rob' the poor man. Nonetheless, Dexter must have been rather silly to think that Electro was going to stick to his word and not come after him again. Especially after he powers up and becomes invincible.

Wouldn't it be simple however for Dexter to inform some authorities and have the power supply shut down for the night. Spider-man can then think through how he is going to take down this new Electro.

The issue is short, and there really is not anything fantastic about it. So far this 'Gauntlet' is going no where further than how the Amazing Spider-man cartoons in the 60's went. Moral of the story, start following New Avengers for better Spider-man stories.

New Avengers 55 -58 summary

With the lack of good Amazing Spider-man stories of late, I have taken it upon myself to look for other good Spider-man involved stories with proper story line and art. With the release of New Avengers 59, sub-titled, Spider-showdown, later today. I thought it appropriate to let readers on this site get updated as to the latest developments in New Avengers.

Of late, Spider-man has been playing a more prominent role in the Avengers, as was planned by the Marvel team, as was already quoted here.

On Peter Parker's growth:

Bendis: "I also think that Spider-Man has become more and more comfortable with his role as an Avenger, and you'll see less and less of the nervous chatter and more of him as a voice of moral reason, being the man who exudes power and responsibility."

In New Avengers 55, we see that the Avengers are having some problems with the Hood, who is working for Osborn, and his gang. They have been on the run, using Capt America's (Bucky's) apartment to hide. In a desperate escape a battle, the Avengers left one of Tony Stark's broken power drainers behind. The crooks take it apart and study it, hoping to use it against the Avengers in their next meeting.

One important point to note in this issue is the disunity both in the Hood's gang and in the Avengers. Not everyone working under the Hood trusts him. Furthermore, he failed to appear at their meeting due to his powers being taken away. Even more people do not want to be working as puppets for Norman Osborn. A character called Dr Jonas Harrow rises to the occasion and explains his "plan."

Back at the Avengers, Captain America is extremely unimpressed with the condition the Avengers left his apartment in. Spider-man very much regrets revealing his secret identity to the team, and even more surprising is Ronin, who wants to kill Norman Osborn once and for all.

One of the highlights of this comic, in my opinion, was watching Spider-man stand up and argue his case and views during a lengthy discussion among his team members. Just like Bendis said he would.

The issue ends with the team entering a booby trap set by the Hood's thugs. Chemistro, who originally found the power drainer left by the Avengers in the beginning succeeded in copying it and using it on the Avengers, leaving them powerless.

New Avengers 56 reveals that it was never intended for these Avengers to appear. Instead the ruckus that attracted the good guys was intended to attract Norman's Avengers. Remember, many of the Hood's thugs did not like being puppets for Osborn. Dr Harrow then takes the opportunity to hack into the Iron Patriot suit and negotiate terms with Norman. When Norman disagrees, he and all his surrounding Avengers lose their powers, looking up to see the Hood's former gang, now under Dr Harrow. Else where the the Hood, is seen on a mystical quest, with Loki, to regain his powers.

Thank God for pictures that paint a thousand words. In this case, the panel below is enough to explain what exactly the Hood's former gang really wants.

New Avengers 57 continues as Norman Osborn agrees to make the deal stated above. As can be predicted, his first assignment for the gang of B class villains is to watch Venom eat Spider-man. Just in the nick of time, Mockingbird, whom I forgot to mention was not affected by the power drainer, appears with backup to evacuate the Avengers.

Before leaving, we see Spider-man taking an opportunity to kick Norman Osborn, who was about to tail their ship, in a very 'well done,' short, but complete fight scene.

The Hood is later shown to have regained his powers, with the help of some stones of Norn.

The Avengers, take Luke Cage, who still has not recovered, to the Night Nurse. Unfortunately, due to Luke Cage's unbreakable skin, she is unable to help him.

Norman and his avengers appear not long later threatening the real Avengers to surrender. At this point Ms. Marvel concludes that they need Norman's help since he is the one who now obtains the Power Drainer needed to break Luke's unbreakable skin.

Luke takes it upon himself to surrender while the others make a run for it.

In New Avengers 58, the Hood Returns, extremely dissatisfied that his crew is now serving Norman Osborn. He is of course even more furious with Dr Harrow.

Norman Osborn is forced to perform his duty as a world hero, to give medical attention to Luke Cage immediately.

With enough distraction, the Avengers manage to get back to base and bring the sad news to Jessica Jones.

All in all, the New Avengers story is going uphill in my opinion. I like the direction this comic is going. Better yet, we see loads of Spider-man in the picture. New Avenger's 59 is coming out later today along with a whole lot of other comics. I can assure you that I, personally will have more fun reviewing New Avengers 59 than ASM 613.

Dark Reign: The list- Amazing Spider-man

Dark Reign: The list Spider-man is the best Spider-man related comic I have read since Who was Ben Reilly? (Amazing Spider-Man 608,609,610) The story as we know involves Norman Osborn going through a checklist of things he wants done. As the cover page suggests, the last thing on his list is to kill Spider-man.

The art for this comic is spectacular. After reading comics with weird art like Amazing Spider-Man 611 and Amazing Spider-Man 612, this comic is like a pain killer. In the preview, we can see that Peter Parker is upset with himself for allowing Norman Osborn to rise to the power he currently holds. He, much like is American Son, is planning to take Norman down once and for all, through the press, again.

The story
The preview ends with Peter consulting with other "Frontline" staff, including Norah who managed to sneak into the Avengers Tower in American Son, on ways to expose Norman. Apparently, Norah had stolen some blueprints to the Avengers Tower during her last visit.

The next scene is most humorous as Norman is explaining to his secretary how he is going to kill Spider-man. He walks into the room and finds Spider-man sitting there, conviniently downloading some files into a pendrive.

Iron patriot grows furious and their reunion evolves into an ultimate showdown between the Iron Patriot and Spidey. Spider-man's humor during the fight never ceases to amaze me. After being hit by one of Iron Patriots beams, the public take it upon themselves to beat the friendly neighborhood Spider-man, as usual.

Elsewhere we see people all over New York watching the fight. Some rooting for Iron Patriot, while others, including Harry, supporting Spider-man. The fight ends with Spider-man barely making an escape in the crowd of civilians.

While searching the crowd, Norman spots Peter Parker who was sending the files in the pendrive to all his contacts, from the media. Norman, as the Iron Patriot tries to hurt Peter but is forced to stop when Peter explains that he is an American tax paying citizen. Make sure you read the panel below.

The story ends with Norah, absolutely mad at Peter for sending the files on the pendrive to Betty Brant, reporter of the DB, as well.

Following this, we see Ben Urich and Jessica Jones a couple of years ago ( Pre OMD), investigating an old murder by Norman Osborn, leading them to his office door. Upon reaching there however, they bump into the Green Goblin himself.

At this point the art changes, much to my liking, resembling the art during the JMS run.

This is essentially just an old story in which Luke Cage, boyfriend of the pregnant Jessica Jones, takes down Norman Osborn with Spider-man and exposing him as the Green Goblin. Ben Urich, now the owner of Frontline was the one who wrote the article exposing Norman Osborn for the Daily Bugle back then.

Personal thoughts - This comic was most enjoyable, and unexpected, even to the point of adding some old stories in with what I call 'good art.' Its interesting to read words like 'Daily Bugle' appearing, and 'Parker!' coming out from the mouth of the Goblin.

American Son - Quick summary

With the release of Dark Reign: The List - Amazing Spider -man today, it was only sensible to review the last Norman Osborn/ Spider-man confrontation which took place in Amazing Spider-man 595 - 599 in a series called American Son.

Dark Reign: The list -Spider-man is essentially a spin off from the American Son series. Prior to this series, Harry was dating a girl called Lily, whose father was running for Mayor.

It was later learned that Lily was in fact the unknown goblin resembling villain known as Menace. Peter, already working for the Front Line at the time, wanted to nail Osborn with the press, as will most probably be the plan in The List.

Due to the lack of available legal proof against Osborn, Spider-man resorts to a physical battle and consults Wolverine before doing so. In the meantime, Peter is also having problems with his new 'brother-in-law' to be, Jonah Jameson - the mayor.

Norman Osborn was trying to recruit his son - Harry to join his Dark Avengers. Peter obviously took this opportunity to beat the hell out of Norman, threatening him to leave Harry alone. In the meantime Lily, in her goblin form appears at Harry's apartment and explains that she is pregnant with his son. In order to help find a cure, Harry agrees to join his fathers Avengers.

Without knowledge of Lily being pregnant, Peter approaches his friend trying to convince him not to join the Dark Avengers. Norah, in the meantime has been trying to investigate whatever she can on Norman Osborn and manages to get access to the Avengers tower.

After beating and capturing Mac Gargan, the new venom who has been posing as the Dark Avenger's Spider-man, Spidey uses a special suit designed by the Fantastic Four and guises himself as Venom.

Spider-man learns that Norman plans on making Harry the new Captain America for his Dark Avengers. Eventually Daken smells Spider-man out and the two battle. The fight ends with Harry appearing. Spider-man is then exposed and tortured. Lily in the meantime is permanently turning into the menace, being unable to change back to her normal form, which further stresses Harry.

While Spider-man is not having the best luck, Norah is doing a good job of making her was around the tower.

The Dark Avengers have a hard time getting the costume off of Spider-man - another feature of the suit. However, using some of Tony Stark's technology, Norman was able to solve the problem. At this point, while waiting for the molecules of the suit to 'stabilize,' Norman explains how Lily was pregnant, with his own son. She was simply a tool to get Harry to join the Avengers. At the same time, Harry, who has finally got a cure for Lily, finds out the news himself. (With Norah spying on them).

Full of hate, Spider-man breaks loose and starts a fight. Without his energy however, he begins to fade out quickly. Before Norman can remove Spider-man's mask, he is hit hard by what we later find out is Harry, in the Captain America costume.

The entire issue following features the intense battle between the two. Harry ends it, but is convinced by Peter not to kill him. Killing him would result in finally becoming the son that he always wanted.

Norah returns extremely happy and enthusiastic about writing the story. She then receives an email that changes her decision about writing the story.

There has been no mention of Lily in the ASM comics since the American Son series finished. Dark Reign: The list-Spider-man will continue where this left off in the final battle, for now, between Norman Osborn and Spider-man.

Amazing spider-man 611

As most Spider-man fans would probably agree, there was nothing special at all about this comic issue. For starters, as we all expected from the preview, the art was not that eye-friendly.

The story line was rather shallow, although it does create
the foundation for a bigger event that will be coming soon. Humor in the comic was rather interesting.

It has to be expected, putting Deadpool and Spider-man together in one comic, although I am not so sure it would be very appealing to younger readers. The humor is hard to follow as Deadpool, as usual, is constantly talking to himself.

As if the art was not bad enough, this comic had to feature Deadpool without his mask, uncovering his hideous face.

The story
For those following the Amazing Spider-man comic, you would recall a random appearance of Madam Web, apparently being held hostage by an anonymous character, being forced to reveal Spider-man's whereabouts. For those who have not been following, the above situation took place in Amazing spider-man 606. The Panel can be found here

Amazing Spider-man 611 takes off from there. Madam Web is being held captive by Kraven the hunter's wife and her daughter, Ana. Kraven's wife and her daughter have been appearing in several issues, recruiting villains to help take down Spider-man. ( ASM 604, ASM 607 )

The issue starts with Deadpool receiving a phone call to do an unknown assignment. The Kraven family is later seen holding Madam Web captive. Peter Parker is having is typical bad day, as portrayed in the Spider-man Movies. He ends up taking on a lame villain called Lady Stilt-man. How contradicting

Deadpool eventually comes into the picture and helps Spider-man out. He next creates some problems for Spider-man that have absolutely nothing to do with the story. In fact, it is learned that Deadpool's entire presence was nothing more than a distraction for something bigger planned by the Kraven family.

Spider-man was distracted from meeting with Anya Corazon, battling Eddie Brock, and meeting (an extremely ugly) Spider-woman. To what purpose this served is unknown to the reader.

However, Spider-woman is seen, caught, and captured by the Kraven family as a part of their plan to take down Spider-man.

Personal Thoughts
A short, boring, almost pointless issue with bad art and interesting humor. It does keep the reader interested to know what this plan is that the Kraven family is cooking.

Assault on New Olympus One Shot # 1 partial review

Quick Summary on what has been taking place in the Incredible Hercules comics, and how does it relate to Spider-man.

Of late, it was discovered that Hera, wife of Zeus and mother of many has been stirring up an evil plan to destroy the world. Amadeus has convinced Hercules to gather up an army to take her down before she can strike.

Peter Parker was introduced to Hebe ( wife of Hercules ), who has been having marital problems for a thousand years. (You just hit the JackPot- Peter Parker). This is entry follows up on what happened immediately with Spider-man after his encounter with Hebe. This is not exactly a review of the whole comic. Only the parts that involve Spider-man.

Partial review
Peter was introduced to her by Aunt May, as Hebe was helping out there as a volunteer in the homeless shelter. He is next seen flirting, in some way, with Hebe, who for your information is the goddess of youth.

At one point, Hebe mentions how Aunt May wants to see Peter married. Apparently Aunt May does not want Peter marrying any Red-Heads. The conversation goes on as Hebe explains how she is actually Hercules wife. She feels rejected by him as he seemed to grow more distant from her and eventually disappeared in person ( left Olympus).

As she pours out her feelings to Peter, he pretty much comforts her, and very quickly develops feelings for her. Hebe blames herself for not making the marriage work and struggles to figure out what she did wrong. Peter Parker, with his new BND character moves in to kiss her. As their lips lock, his Spider-sense start going haywire.

Peter opens an eye to see whats going on, only to be greeted by a furious Hercules. The entire fight scene between the two is rather comical. One of the more entertaining fight scenes. Regardless, the fight ends with Hebe coming to the rescue, and Herc explaining to her why he acted the way he did towards her before.

It all has a happy ending between the two. Thankfully, Peter does not end up with Hebe. Despite her attractive character, Peter does not belong with the goddess of youth.

The comic ends with Spider-man, Spider-woman, and wolverine ( and most probably some others ), joining forces to help take down Hera.

Of late, content in Spider-man Reviews appear to contain a large number of covers in which Spider-man appears in other comic besides his own Amazing Spider-man series. Some include:

Here we have the latest cover for New Avengers # 59 featuring Spider- Woman and Spider-man Back to back, set for release on November 25th, the same day Incredible Hercules comes out.

Spider-man and woman, with torn clothes, losing a battle against someone. Once again, I do not usually follow the New Avengers, but looks like I will be getting this one, for the sake of staying on top of things here. Review for the issue may or may not be up, depending on the importance of the issue to the ASM comics. Regardless, something will definitely be up in the "More Comic Stuffs" menu.

Siege Teaser with Spider-man

Siege is supposed to be the next big event that will take place in the Marvel Universe, after Dark Reign. I'm guessing soon after Norman fails to complete his final task on the list, his reign will come to an end. And there after we'll have Siege.

Isn't it funny how us readers know that Norman Osborn is going to fall from power soon. Yet he goes about trying to gain power. I wonder what Deadpool is thinking. After all, Deadpool himself knows he's in a comic doesn't he?

Amazing Spider-man 610

We finally conclude the most interesting and best story arc in the Amazing Spider-man Comics in a long time - Who was Ben Reilly? The story build up for the whole Who was Ben Reilly? was fantastic. So much so, that I dare say fans like myself were expecting slightly more from it.

Summary The Spider-man 610 preview leaves us where Kaine comes into the picture and is ready to kill Peter in exchange for Damon being able to cure Kaine's degenerative condition. Like the rest of the Who was Ben Reilly? stories, ASM 610 has two stories carrying on simultaneously.

The preview, also shows Kaine strangling Ben in Damon's house. The next scene shows Ben retaliating and pushing Kaine into the fire. In the short time Ben escapes from Kaine, he searches the house for Damon who is back to his sanity and can't seem to remember what he has done.

Back in current time, Raptor decides to set Aunt May's house on fire to make Peter ( whom he thinks is Ben) realize how it feels to have his family burn.

The story shifts again and it is learned that Damon, in his insanity had killed his own family, but cannot recall the event.

Remember how screwball kept appearing is ASM 608 and 609? Well apparently there was a reason for it all. The last we see screwball making an open invitation on media to challenge Spider-man one on one. Apparently Peter agreed and set the location as Aunt May's house. With Screwball as a distraction, Peter gets his cousins and Harry out of the house and changes into Spider-man.

He knocks Screwball out and deals with Damon himself. Unfortunately he forgot about Kaine, who caught him from behind and unmasked him in front of Damon. At this point even Kaine tries to explain to Damon that Peter and Ben are different. Kaine then stands and watches as the two set things straight themselves ( by fighting and talking ).

The immediate next scene is the same one from the ASM Sneek peek.

Going back to the past, Damon does not believe he killed his own family and blames it on Ben. Kaine later appears and explains to Ben how he wants to watch and see how Ben handles the situation. Ben obviously saves the knocked out Damon instead of leaving him there to burn.

It is basically a Deja vu for Damon as he get knocked out again by Peter, who webs him up for the cops. Unfortunately, Peter, as usual is the one caught by the cops. Being so busy webbing up his face to protect his identity, he does not notice that Kaine, Screwball and even Damon have all disappeared. He decides to follow their example and make a run for it.

The final scene shows Raptor admitting to Kaine that he had lied when he said he was able to cure him.

Personal thoughts

One thing for certain is that, nothing big or important has changed as a result of this arc. For example:

Ben Reilly remains dead
In fact, Reilly remains exactly as he was, an innocent who was dead. There was nothing revealed about "Who was Ben Reilly" that we did not already know. Except that he worked with Ryder
Peter Parker somehow manages to retain his secret identity, except for Damon who sees him unmasked.
Kaine kills Damon ( leaving us with no one out of the ordinary knowing Peter's identity )
The whole story took place without Aunt May, which leaves me wondering why they even showed a short panel of Aunt May during her holiday with JJ. Sr. in ASM 608

Perhaps some things that occurred in this story that will have effect in later comics will be:

Aunt May's house is burned
Harry might get suspicious about Peter's identity
Nothing else.

If there was one word to describe Spider-man 610 it would be - Anti Climatic. Personally, I was expecting more from this arc. Along I'm sure with many other fans, I was hoping to see something significant happen that would change the direction for coming ASM comics.

One interesting point to note is that while explaining the difference between Ben and Peter to Damon, Kaine referred to Peter as Ben's clone. What was his intention in that?

Another question I found myself asking was if Damon was really dead. There is a scene where Kaine, in an attempt to encourage Damon to kill Peter, states that Peter is Ben's clone and therefore is capable of killing his family as well. Peter later refers to this statement and admits that he is whoever Ben was, and will therefore keep him alive.

Taking this into consideration, Kaine too is both Peter and Ben. The last scene of Kaine killing Damon is not quite solid enough to say Damon is actually dead. Kaine may have simply punished him severely.

Regardless, this was a very good story. Rating: 8/10

Peter Parker/ Mary Jane relationship - Pre OMD

So, I was just browsing through a comic thread over at the CBR forum. I came across a topic regarding the JMS run prior to OMD. In the thread,there were some scans that brought back to mind why I liked Pre -BND so much.

Of course, there was a more responsible Peter Parker ( I suppose it comes with being married as well), who's situation in life was much different to the current one. I am not here to criticize the current BND run. The new story is completely different from the old one, and does have its own interesting stories.

Nevertheless, I have to admit that there is much to miss from the old, married Spider-man character. Here I will be highlighting his relationship with Mary Jane - one of the many reasons Anti BND fans are Anti BND. Check out this panel below.

I do not remember what was the situation in this comic. But obviously, Peter is not gonna be cheating on Mary Jane with a scantily dressed seducer girl. Let me see, who is it that this chic here reminds me of? White hair, blue eyes, appeared in ASM 606, sound familiar?

Now check out this scan below. This is what happens when you make jokes about Mary Jane. I do recall reading this, just forgot what issue it was. It was obviously during the time that Spider-man and family were staying at the Stark tower.

In the panels above, Mary Jane must have done something really bad, that I do not remember. Wolverine then makes some unnecessary comment and out he goes the unbreakable window.

Well, I hope Marvel restores this marriage at some point. In the mean time, we're back to Brand New Day. Peter is single, Mary Jane is last seen looking at Spidey and Black Cat making out, and Kaine back in town.

ps. I wonder if the new Aunt May even remembers living in the Stark Tower. Does she remember her crush of some sort aka Jarvis?

Spider-man Costumes

In the past, we have seen a number of different suits that Spider-man has worn, other than his classic red and blue costume.

In this entry, I just decided to run through the different Spider-man suit from the 1960's to 2009.

First, we have the original Spider-man suit, with his little webs under his armpit. I suppose this was supposed to help him fly a little? The colors of the suit, in the Spider-man movie were supposed to represent Mary Jane's red hair and blue eyes.

Does anyone know what inspired this weird costume to start with? I am unsure if there was a comic where he designed the costume.

Of course in the comics, we all know that this was not his inspiration for the costume. Even if it were, Mary Jane has green eyes. Eventually, the little spider-webs we're removed as art progressed, although I occasionally still do see some art with it.

This red and blue suit has, and is the most common Spider-man costume, that Peter Parker will most probably always end up using. Even his daughter, Spider-girl, in the alternate universe uses this same costume. Which to me is ridiculous.

The next costume, used by Spider-man is of course the symbiote costume. This was a very cool costume, that not only changed Spider-man's image, but his personality as well. Even after he got rid of the Symbiote, he still made a similar black costume to swing around in. He eventually put the costume away because his wife - Mary Jane, did not like it as it aroused bad memories.

Spider-man did not wear this costume again until after Civil War, in a series called Back in Black, when he was no longer a registered super hero, but a wanted good guy. After Aunt May was shot, he was out to get revenge- even more a reason for the black costume. He began to slip away from his morals in a way due to his mental distraught .

In the recent American Son series, Mr Fantastic made Spider-man a black suit that to guise himself as Venom, who was part of the dark avengers, pretending to be Spider-man. Confusing isn't it? This suit was made of.. something unreal and extra fantastic. Norman Osborn had the hardest time taking Spidey's mask off.

Are the words too small to read? Well, Norman's just saying something extremely scientific. Describing what he thinks the suit is made of.

Anyways, before all this, during Civil War, Iron Man made the coolest suit yet. The Iron-Spdiey suit. This suit was fit with a whole lot of new upgrades. Such included some extra poison legs that come out from his back, and the ability to glide. Although made of iron, the suit was light and flexible like. Eventually, it was destroyed as Spider-man was escaping from Iron man and gang. Read Civil war for that.

Another suit, that Spider-man wears in the future in one designed by some guy. I do not remember completely, but I do remember, in one issue where Spider-man visits a costume designer. He designs a costume for Spider-man and gives him his number to call in case he ever wants it. Later on in the comic, Spider-man goes somewhere in the future, when he is old. He sees his future self wearing the costume designed buy the guy earlier. I absolutely love this costume.

See Spider-Man Costumes pt 2

Amazing Spider-Man # 609

A comic that looks better than its cover is exactly what Amazing Spider-man # 609 is. As a reader, if I had not been following the story from the last issue, I would not pick this comic, judging from its cover. As can be seen below, the cover is not all that attractive. Spider-man swinging, (eyes at his nose) above some creep.

Fortunately, unlike the cover, this comic is once again near perfect. Guggenheim is doing an awesome job here. Art is again consistent with issue 608. Spidey, and even Peter has this cool Batman/serious look. Peter Parker, as we all know, does not take the safety of his loved ones lightly. Similarly, this comic is no different as Peter gets 'serious' when those close to him are in danger. As in # 608, the story shifts from present time to past, revealing more background information to the relationship between Ben Reilly and Damon Ryder in the past.

Summary

From the preview, we know that Kaine is looking for Raptor because he believes that Damen can help his deteriorating condition. Issue # 608 left off with Ben, not very pleased when he found out that Ryder had been experimenting on himself with Dinosaur DNA. As a result he ties Ryder up and quickly goes to get some help. He hopes to find someone who can sedate Ryder and flush out the Dino-DNA in him. We see Kaine's shadowy figure in the background, listening to the conversation between Ben and Ryder as they fight.

Returning to where the preview left off, Kaine is still fighting Spidey. The fight ends with Kaine stating how Peter would react in the exact same fashion as he is, if he were in Kaine's position.
And yes, Kaine knows Peter's identity. He then tosses a cab at Spider-man and makes a run for it. While catching the cab, Spider-man hears Screwball on the radio calling for Spider-man's attention. Apparently she wants to meet him since her hits on her website rocket sky high whenever they meet.

Honestly, I do not see any necessity in bringing Screwball into the picture here. However, there may be a purpose for it all later.

On a more important note, Peter returns to his apartment and gets a little frantic as he thinks Raptor may have hurt Michelle. Ironically, Raptor did not hurt Michelle at all. He simply used her to get some information on where the Reilly's were staying. He also left a little gift for Peter - a dirty stuffed toy.

We later see Damon's kid playing with that same toy in the Ben Reilly flashback. The comic takes us back Ben Reilly, who has found some help. Unfortunately, he returns to the lab with Damon no where to be found. It is interesting that there is some reference to Raptor, being similar to Stegron - an old dinosaur like villain ( below).

Obviously he is much more dinosaur that Raptor. Although Raptor is not too far from getting there. Read this

Ben Reilly, then puts on his 'no-nonsense mask' and storms toward Ryder's home. Apparently, Ryder has mutated into some 'big jawed' dino-man. Outside of Ryder's home is Kaine observing Reilly.

Coming back to Peter, he too, has his 'no nonsense mask' on. After all, tehy are the same person. As mentioned, Peter's protective character over his loved ones is really shown here. He arrives at his aunt's house to find everyone held hostage. In the final scene we see our hero, ready to reveal his alter-ego to save his best friend and cousins, as revealed in the panel below.

Personal comments:

This is exactly the type of 'Serious Batman no-nonsense' mask that Peter puts on when those close to him are in danger. Due to the situation change (the bad guy is after Peter, not Spidey) we no longer have our harmless Peter Parker. Instead we will be having some serious action coming from the man without his mask!

He obviously is not afraid to reveal his identity if it means safety for those around him from
the Raptor.

Peter also leaves Michelle more clueless as his final words to her are ' Stay in a hotel tonight.'

According to an interview with Bob Gale,
there will be an issue centered around Michelle soon. I'm looking forward to see what Marvel will do with this character.

In this issue, we see quite a fair bit of Kaine sneaking around Ryder's house, spying on Reilly. It seems more possible that Kaine may have been the one to kill Ryder's family.

Amazing Spider-man # 608

A great issue. Beside is the alternate cover for the comic. A+ for the consistent artwork. It gives Spider-man a cooler, more serious, Batman detective type of image. A good story line is unfolding slowly. The issue takes us back and forth between past and present time-line.

Thankfully, no mention of the playgirl - Black Cat.

Amazing Spider-man 608 uncovers the history of the villain who first appeared in ASM Annual # 36 a.k.a Raptor.

The story starts as shown in the preview, "back then," with Ben Reilly applying for a job as lab assistant with Dr Damen Ryder.

Spider-man, back i normal time, is dealing with Screwball. The last page of the preview shows Peter having a face to face confrontation with the same face he saw as he pulled off the mask of the crook in ASM annual 36- Raptor

Unfortunately for Peter, Raptor (in human form) is causing some problems and threatens to attack Peter's family. Raptor eventually leaves, handing a newspaper article to Ben Urich (Peter's boss). The article shows a picture of Peter, accusing him of burning a house down.

Backflashing to Ben Reilly and Dr Ryder, we see that they have become quite close friends. Apparently they were trying to establish proof of the missing link between man and dinosaur. While, slightly tipsy after dinner, Dr Ryder explains to Ben that they were successful and are currently creating a hybrid in their lab.

The scene returns to Spider-man, following his spidey tracer which he left on Raptor's coat. It leads him to an abandoned apartment with nothing but Raptor's coat. Raptor in the meantime, appears at Peter's apartment ( without his coat ), and is invited in by Michelle.

Returning to the Ben Reilly scene, we learn that Ben had been looking through some files after dinner, learning a horrible truth - Dr Ryder had experimented on himself and was now the 'hybrid' spoken of over dinner.

The final scene is of Spider-man still wandering around the dark, empty apartment. Before he knows it, he is being choked by his imperfect, more powerful clone - Kaine. This image has been released for some time, but I will post it again.

Personal Thoughts

This comic has some emphasis on Norah, Peter's colleague, showing some kind of feeling of care and concern toward him.

The return of Kaine in the comics bring much excitement to all readers I believe. What is he doing here? Where has he been? Even more intriguing is - What is he doing in Raptor's hideout? Is he working with Raptor? If he is,that means that Raptor would have some background information about Ben being Pete's clone would he not? Why would he still be after Peter if he knew that he isn't Ben?

Again, I must salute the artists. Below is an image of Spider-man's cooler, more serious Batman like image. Anyone agree?

Sometime today or tomorrow should be getting my hands on the Amazing Spider-man 608. In the meantime, I'll mention that, I was quite surprised this morning as I received a personal message on Spider-man Crawlspace.

Spider-man review: flashback

While waiting for the Amazing Spider-Man #607 issue to be released I decided to take a look at some old issues -before and devil came into the picture and turned things upside down.

Over the years, Spider-man had developed and grown as a character. From the initial high school kid, to college, to marriage, having marriage problems, landing a job as a teacher, revealing his identity to Aunt May.

Peter Parker has taken many many years to grow a number of years older. Some people did not like the idea of a grown Spider-man. As such, recently they have changed the Spider-man story what we know as One More Day. The reason for doing this was because Marvel wanted Peter to keep his image as a struggling, unlucky guy, who is single.

I will not take sides and argue as to whether or not this was a good decision. Not on this website at least. But personally, I would have liked to see Spider-man develop as a character, and yes, even grow old. An old Peter Parker does not mean that there has to be an old Spider-man.

Marvel is highly capable of introducing a successor if needed. After erasing the marriage, we know that anything is possible.

Below is an image taken from an issue where Spider-man goes into the future and sees himself... and yes, he is old. Personally, I like the suit with the jacket.

This is how I would have preferred Spider-man to age. Ultimate Spider-man,the newer comic series in which Peter Parker is back in high school (just not as nerdy as the original), can do all the single guy stuff. It would have been good to see the Marvel Universe 616, Spider-man mature and progress.

Anyway, this is just a quick look into the past and what could have developed from the Amazing Spider-man comic. Not to mention a happily ever after life of some sort for the hero.

Here we have Peter thanking God for his wife, Mary Jane in bed. No wonder, Mephisto wanted to end the marriage. And so ends the happily ever after..for now.

In the meantime, back in real time, the single, depressed Spider-man is hoping to get another chance with the Black Cat! Coming in issue ASM # 607 tomorrow.

Anti Venom: New ways to live # 1

This is a short, but interesting comic. The story takes us through the eyes of the now reformed Eddie Brock. As Venom, he desired to kill. Now, as the Anti-Venom, he desires to heal others.

He's basically a good guy so to speak. Like everyone else, he has an angel and a devil on his shoulders. Although he wants to do good, he still carries his evil nature to kill.

The girl in the preview apparently hold quite a soft spot in Anti-Venom's heart. Her name is Jenna. She has been helping Anti-Venom bust the bad guys ( in a way)

Jenna is not entirely an innocent. It is clear that she is involved in some things as well - former druggie etc. Nevertheless, she is good, like how Eddie is good now. The story shows us Anti-Venom busting a number of baddies.

On one occasion, the Punisher comes in just before Eddie makes his move. The two team up up till the point that Punisher learns that Anti-Venom is actually Eddie Brock - a former, very dangerous murderer.

At this point, everyone who knows anything about the Punisher knows what happens.
