Carnage USA # 4-5 review

Posted by bulletproofsponge 08 May 2012

Wow! It's been a long time since I've even thought about finishing this series. Don't get me wrong, I loved the series and highly recommend it. However I just haven't had the time to actually finish reviewing it up here.

Carnage USA # 4
We last left off at what can be considered the best cliffhanger possible for a Carnage issue - Agent Venom, preparing to take out Carnage.

This issue starts with Spider-Man giving a speech to the fellow villagers about how they're gonna take Carnage out. Little do they know that a battle is already taking place downtown.

Cletus watches from afar as he grows tired of seeing his little symbiotes being whacked by the Mercury team. He then, brings in the big guns, aka the Avengers whom he has under his control. The poor Mercury team barely stand a chance and resort to calling backup from Dr Nieves aka Scorn. Unfortunately for them, Scorn doesn't answer to their request for backup but is instead seen building something of her own.

Spider-Man and his gang of farmers ( honestly, that's what they look like ) come to the rescue just in time. Spider-Man takes the fight straight to Cletus himself. He struggles a fair bit until Agent Venom comes in to save the day!

Venom fires Carnage with a number of Sonic Shrapnel shots. Carnage eventually loses control of all the people he was controlling, including the Avengers. Venom pretty much owns Carnage and is about to kill him until Spider-Man stops him. This dumb move by Spider-Man gives Carnage enough time to focus his attention again. He controls the Thing and gets him to knock Venom out.

Fortunately, Scorn then appears just in time to pick up both Venom and Carnage and drop them into a machine she built, designed to separate the symbiote from the host.

The issue ends with Cletus, standing over Flash's legless body with a knife, preparing to kill him.

Carnage USA # 5

Spider-Man and the rest of the Avengers, who are now free from the symbiote control, stand on a hill, staring at the meat factory, where Scorn took Venom and Carnage.

Spider-Man worries however, that with the Symbiotes no longer attached, they are now wild, running loose, possibly looking for someone else to latch on to.

Meanwhile, Cletus is about to kill Flash, who is legless. Cletus boasts how his legs aren't made out of symbiote like Flash's. Strangely enough though, just as Cletus speaks those words, synthetic legs crumble. it all soon becomes an arena of death for the two legless lads.

Coming back to Spider-Man and the others, they soon witness a Gorilla covered with the Venom symbiote being chased by a ton of other animals covered in the Carnage symbiote. The Avengers, Mercury team, and farmers all try to stop the symbiotes. Spider-Man notices however that the gorilla only wants to go to the meat factory where Flash is. Spidey helps Venom to achieve his goals by clearing the way.

In the meantime, the order to bomb the town has already been given. A whole lot of firepower comes down on the Carnage symbiote, destroying the town with it.

Coming back to Venom, the Gorilla makes it to the factory in time, just as Cletus is about to kill Flash. Things turn around quickly as soon as Flash connects with his suit.

By the end of this issue:

  1. Cletus is taken captive
  2. the Carnage symbiote is secured by Scorn who has a 'secondary objective' for it.
  3. The town is burnt
  4. Wolverine, the Sheriff and I are left wondering why they didn't just kill Cletus.
Thoughts
This whole series was fantastic. Carnage USA was definitely one of the best Symbiote stories in my opinion. It's certainly better than the last Five Carnage issues, which technically provides a background to this mini, explaining how Carnage came back to life.

Venom did a fantastic job in this issue. His appearance and timing was classic. I must add that the art work for Venom was also beautiful. Unfortunately, Spider-Man prevented him from actually getting rid of Carnage due to his 'no one dies' rule.

We also see Venom, finally agreeing not to kill Carnage, simply out of his respect for Spider-Man. By doing so however, he also gained the respect of Captain America, which probably means a lot for a war hero like himself.

I really hope to see more Venom/ Spider-Man team ups in the near future. As for Cletus and Carnage, we know that this is not their end. As such I'll end with ...

To be continued...

Amazing Spider-Man 685

Posted by bulletproofsponge 07 May 2012

Here we go, with part for of the Ends of the Earth. We finally get to see Dr Ock's true side here in this issue.

The Story
This issue begins with Spider-Man, Black Widow, and Silver Sable fighting Rhino. They've been looking for Dr. Ock's main base for three days now. Anyhow, Rhino gets taken out about three pages into the issue, so you can be sure he was absolutely no threat.

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, we see that the world, including SHIELD, has turned against Spider-Man, Widow and Sable. SHIELD comes to take the good guys in, but don't stand a chance as the three disappear in some smoke and jump into their invisible ship.

On the ship, we see Spider-Man and Sable torturing Sandman, or what is left of him. Sandman eventually gives in and tells them whatever they need to know. It's implied to us readers however that Spider-Man was not going to continue torturing Sandman if he never gave in.

Spidey makes a call to Horizon, who then questions Spider-Man as they have confirmed that Dr. Ock's technology can save the world from Global Warming.

Back at the Sinister Six base, Chameleon speaks his thoughts. He wants to abort the mission since he has two billion bucks and a clean slate to start over. He also adds that there are only four of the Sinister Six left and that things could get risky.

Back at The Swan aka the Sable's invisible ship, Widow tells Spidey that she has intel of Dr Ock recruiting more forces/ villains to take them out. In response, Spider-Man calls for the help of every Second Class super-powered good guy out there to help.

Soon after, Sable and Spidey share an 'almost moment' of which Spidey lets slip by. It is implied that his mind is on MJ and a promise he made her. ( I think I may have missed it. )

We also get to see a little bit of Mary Jane in the issue soon after as she walks along the roads of Manhattan believing Peter will come through, no matter what the rest of the world thinks.

Nothing else that important happens in this issue. Essentially, with the help of the other good guys, Spider-Man's job is reduced substantially. Spidey eventually finds Ock's main base ( in Symkaria ), only to find it empty. Dr Ock eventually comes on screen and tells Spider-Man that the base is empty because he has launched all the satellites required to finish his plan.

Dr Octopus then turns up the heat and the whole of Symkaria is burnt, along with that half of the world facing the sun.

Thoughts
It is pretty clear from this issue that Dr Octopus was a double crossing no good, not only to the world, but to the rest of the Sinister Six as well. When Sandman was being tortured, it appeared as though he truly thought they were the good guys this time, trying to save the world.

Furthermore, Chameleon and Mysterio for that matter got what they came for, and were more than happy to leave and abort the rest of the mission. Rhino and Sandman were promised things worth more than money. You can be sure that destroying the world however, was not part of their agreement.

As for the Sable/ Spider-Man moment, I noticed there were a number of fans on the comic forums who were hoping there would be some kind of development between the two characters. I admit that it would have been pretty interesting to see some romantic interest evolve from their friendship, however, being a MJ fan, I think this book doesn't need anymore delay as far as the Peter Parker/ Mary Jane relationship is concerned. I'm pretty much waiting for issue 700 to find out what happens in the end.

In this issue, it seems as thought the 'Ends Of Earth' story is finally picking up a little. The whole issue is mostly a showcase of Black widow, Sable, Spider-Man and Sandman. No one else in this issue really matters, except for maybe those over at Horizon Labs who play a pretty decent role in the issue.

The Story

We start with Sable, in her invisible costume, coming to aid Black Widow. Once she gets Widow out, she sets a bomb on the Avengers ship. ( After all, money comes from the skies for the likes of Tony Stark )

Silver Sable's plan is actually pretty decent as the explosion of the aircraft causes Dr Ock to lose concentration for a split second, allowing Spider-Man to escape with the help of Sable. (He was about to get killed.. as usual) Dr Ock decides to let Spider-Man go, as he has more important business, such as dragging the half dead bodies of the Avengers to his ship.

Anyway, Sable takes off her invisible cloak once the coast is clear, and brings Spider-Man and Black Widow into her 'Invisible Ship'.

To cut it short, Horizon Labs later manages to patch through to Spider-Man from their ocean base ( yes, they have that). They inform him that Dr Ock is holding a meeting with the world leaders and is requesting payment of $2billion per Sinister Six member, and a clean slate with which they can start their lives over.

Just then the Symkarian President, who is at the meeting, leaks some info regarding Dr Ock's bases to Sable. The three decide to head towards the base in the Sahara desert. Spidey then gets the help of Horizon to come up with a way to defeat Sandman ( who will obviously be at the Sahara base)

We later find out that it was all a trap. There was nothing at the base but Sandman, waiting to pound them. After a pretty cool fight scene however, our team of superheroes manage to contain Sandman in a little bag of web fluid.

The issue ends with Dr. Ock making one last request, to make Spider-Man the world's most wanted felon.

Thoughts
The thing I like about this issue is that Electro never makes an appearance after being shot into space, making it fairly realistic. Honestly, I was half expecting him to show up as if nothing had ever happened. Instead, he actually stays lost in space, for one whole issue at least!

The art is fantastic, especially since I am a little biased towards Ramos's art style. I won't go into the details of how Spider-Man contained Sandman, but I have to say that it was pretty smart. It's good to see Spider-Man come up with new ways to defeat his enemies.

So, before starting this review, I must say that the cover for this issue has to be one of the best! Unlike a good number of people out there, I like Spider-Man's new armor. Sure, it does have a little of an Iron Man/ Red Hood feel, but I like Red Hood's helmet, so yea.

The Story

This issue starts '2 weeks ago' when the Sinister Six members are busy collecting seemingly unrelated items, as Dr Octopus has instructed.

Coming back to current time, Spidey leads Capt A. and Thor into a meeting between world leaders. They are discussing the next step in regards to Dr. Octopus's offer. Among those in the hall is Al Gore, who Spider-Man points out to actually be the Chameleon.

Just as the Chameleon is exposed, Dr Ock appears on the big screen ( he tends to do that), speaking to those at the meeting. He then tells them that he will teach them one 'final lesson.' Spidey think he's ready for the worst.

Instead of another disaster however, we find that Dr. Ock's final lesson is to fix global warming temporarily, proving that he can be trusted and that he truly does have a solution. This gains the trust and approval of the world leaders at the meeting. As a final request, Dr Octopus requests that Chameleon be freed.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that somewhere in between all this, Horizon Labs gets shut down by our favorite mayor.

Anyway, Chameleon meets the rest of the Six at a random beach. When asked why the strange location, Mysterio points out a Spidey tracer on his back. A second or two later, the Avengers arrive, resulting in a serious battle.

Among the interesting things that happen, Electro gets thrown into the sky by Thor, who is later stabbed through the back by Rhino's new horn, which is really a tooth of the Midgard Serpent. It doesn't end too well for the Avengers at the end of the issue. ( Even Capt A. gets iced)

Thoughts
This whole issue, in my opinion is simply an excuse to showcase Spider-Man's new suit. So lets go through what his suit can do.

  1. It can sense Chameleon's hearbeat
  2. It can detect Mysterio's holograms
  3. It is Electro proof
  4. It is strong enough to take on the Rhino
  5. And I think he had a thing to use against Dr. Ock, but it didn't quite work out.
Apart from this, nothing else major took place in this issue besides the shutting down of Horizon Labs. Other small things also took place like Black Widow crashing in a plane, but that's okay because she'll just come back out. There was also a special Silver Sable appearance. Think she'll come to save the day again?

Really sorry guys for not posting this sooner. I've just been a little busy that all. Anyway, here we are with another installment of Spider-Man - The world's greatest superhero. ( I'm really struggling to see how they came up with the title)

The Story

It all starts pretty simply with Spider-Man trying out his new gadgets to take out super crooks. Among his 'original' ideas are Spider-bombs and a Spider glider. For the first part of the issue, Spidey is pretty proud of himself for creating all these new inventions at Horizon that help him curb crime.

He also thinks to himself how he has designed special gadgets for each of the Sinister Six.

As Peter stands, admiring himself, he notices some commotion at Horizon. It turns out that Mayer Jameson wants to shut Horizon down. Obviously this is bad news for our Friendly Neighbor hood Spider-Man.

A few panels later, we see that Doc Octopus's brilliant plan is to speed up global warming, which he does!

He then telecasts himself on every television screen, like most old school bad guys, and tells the world that he has a solution for global warming, which will come eventually, with or without him. He claims that all he wants is to be know as the man who saved the future. He then stops the global warming he created. ( convenient )

It appears that most of the world seem pretty interested to see what Doc Ock has to say. Even the Avengers are considering listening him out. We end the issue with Spider-Man gearing up to take on this new problem. He approaches the Avengers, telling them to take out Doc Ock ( who is obviously up to no good. )

Oh, I forgot to mention Spidey appears with his new armor suit.

Thoughts
From my review, you can pretty much guess what I think of this issue. The story, for this issue at least, is way too simple. I mean, nobody threatens the world with global warming anymore! Sure Doc Ock is dying, but couldn't his final master plan be a lil more original?

Obviously, this is not all there is to his plan, so I still have hope for the story of this arc. Spidey's costume is pretty cool to me. Am definitely looking forward to see what it can do.

I'm also hoping we don't see anymore of this Spidey Glider! ( Unless its with a stand off against Osborn )

For those who do not already know, this issue is a part two of a short story that started in the last issue- ASM 680. ( Man, I did not word that right)

The Story
We start at the Apogee Space Station, where Spider-Man, Human Torch, and John Jameson are being attacked by 'zombies' ( crew controlled by Doc Ock)

Torch, flies his two companions out of the situation, but is soon told by John to stop, or else he will burn up all the oxygen. Just then, Johnny's ( torch) ship crashed through the station, leaving them no way to escape. John Jameson tells the others that there is another shuttle, but fears using it as it may be compromised. Through enough, the shuttle explodes as they near it. Luckily Torch absorbs the blast.

The three sit around thinking of another plan. All is not going so well, until Spidey gets the bright idea of shutting the air supply in the room where all the zombie people are to knock them unconscious. Johnny Storm offers his special cell phone designed by Reeds that can call Galactus, to get in contact with Horizon to cut the air supply.

Noticing that the air supply has been cut, Dr Ock, decides to investigate and find out what is going on in the space station. When he sees Spider-Man, he is filled with rage and sends the station crashing down to earth.

Spider-Man then switches to magnetic webbing and quickly webs all the unconsious 'zombies' together. He then brings them in to the Deep Space Sensory Deprivation Chamber ( Whatever that is). Johnny worries a little that the zombies will wake up, but Spider-Man assures him that his magnetic webbing will disrupt Dr. Ock's communications with his octobots. This leads to my favorite scene in the book, which really makes perfect sense.

Anyway, with everyone safe, the ship explodes and Johnny again absorbs the blast. Everyone lands in the sea and no one dies! Of course the issue ends with Dr. Octopus planning is lat master plan. -.-

Thoughts
Again, this was a okay issue in my opinion. What I really loved about this issue is how Spider-Man was able to forget about his magnetic webbing. It's funny, strange, and should not happen in comics, yet it did. In a real life situation, I'm sure people would forget about something like that. It's just hilarious that it happened in a comic book.

I've recently been watching a TV series called Firefly ( mostly space adventures ) and that scene between Spider-Man and Torch seems like something that would happen in that series. Check it out ;)

Amazing Spider-Man 680

Posted by bulletproofsponge 01 March 2012

To be honest, this was a pretty okay issue. A lot of people on the discussion boards think it fabulous, primarily due to the Human Torch/Spider-Man team-up. I've never really been one to care for Johnny Storm, so unfortunately the team up doesn't add any points for me.

The Story
It starts with Mayor Jameson at Horizon Labs, starting s 'skype' conversation with his son, who is on a mission in space on The Apogee 1 space station. At the start, things are going well, and Peter takes a moment to observe how happy and proud Jameson is of his son. All that changes when the line is cut and the system starts failing.
Peter rushes out of the room, changes into Spider-Man and heads straight for the Baxter building.

Over at the Baxter building, Reed, Sue and the Thing are all out, leaving Johnny alone to rock out to " Friday"- by Rebecca Black *wtf*

Although seemingly reluctant at first, Johnny joins Spidey and they both take a rocket up to space. Obviously, the comical dialog between the two clowns adds value to the issue. In one scene though, Spider-Man thinks to himself how Johnny has changed a little, becoming slightly more serious since his death.

Back at Horizon Labs, Mayor Jameson blames Max and Horizon Labs for that matter, for everything that has happened. He also claims that Horizon Labs is dangerous for New York. * Could this be the start of the end to Peter's dream job?*

Over at Space, Spidey and Human Torch reach the Space Station. At once, they realize that the station is empty and that there is no one on board. Spider-Man's spider sense go off and the two are soon confronted with about a million octobots.

Initially, Torch tries burning them, but soon stops as Spider-Man tells him that he is burning the limited oxygen available in the station. Spider-Man then tries to web the bugs, but fails as his webbing isn't working thanks to zero-gravity.

The two are eventually saved by John Jameson, who zaps the bugs with his gun. Over at Octavius's base, Mysterio notices that several hundred bugs have gone offline for a few minutes. Octavius tells Mysterio to complete the mission, then destroy the Space Station in 20 minutes.

Back in Space, John has taken Spidey and Torch to where he has been hiding. It doesn't take long before they are spotted by the rest o the crew - who have now been zombified / had their brains taken over by octobots.

Thoughts
Like I said at the start, the Spidey/ Torch didn't do much to impress me. For those who are a fan of such team ups though, this would be a great issue. I'm not a big fan of Spider-Man in Space in general. I think he belongs down in the city, (Which is why he's based there anyway).

I'm also not really sure how he got the tag line "The galaxy's greatest superhero" on the cover.

An occasional adventure elsewhere, like this one, could be fun once in a while though. I have to say that the art for this issue was definitely far above average, with the exception of Ramos drawing style whom I am biased towards. Colors were excellent as well. It was nice to see Jameson proud and happy in the first panel, although that was short lived. * Just look at the scan I put up earlier *

As I predicted somewhere in my review earlier, I have a feeling Jameson will force the shut down of Horizon Labs, thus ending Peter's good luck run.  ( Then again, I am no expert at these predictions )

Till the next issue...

Amazing Spider-Man 679.1

Posted by bulletproofsponge 24 February 2012

I really don't know what the big deal is with all these 0.1 issues, but here's a quick review of what takes place.

Story
In this issue, we are introduced in more depth to a fairly new character who works over at Horizon Labs - Uatu. Uatu is essentially one of those guys who linger in the background that nobody really notices. Just like how Peter was supposed to check out the math for Grady in Amazing Spider-Man 679  Uatu was supposed to check the math for one of Peter's inventions.

While, trying to prevent Uatu from hurting himself on one of his inventions, Peter cuts himself, causig some blood to drip close to the air vent. We see, on the other side of the air vent, our mysterious scientist who works in lab 6 - Morbius, picking up the scent of blood.

The next day, both Peter and Uatu notice Max Modell coming out of lab six, visibly unhappy. Peter decides to once and for all sneak into lab 6, as Spider-Man and find out who works behind the closed doors.

Sneaking through the air vents, Spider-Man witnesses Max, speaking to Morbius, who is losing control of himself due to his hunger for blood. Together with Max, the two have been working on a solution, to create artificial blood that will satisfy Morbius' cravings ( and save lives if introduced to the medical world). In the meantime however, Max offers some of his own blood in several test tubes to ease the cravings.

Unfortunately, as Morbius drinks the blood, he loses control and tries to attack Max. Spider-Man intervenes, knocking over the rest of the blood samples, increasing the scent of the blood in the lab. Morbius, loses it completely and crashes through the lab door, fighting Spider-Man.

Uatu's face lights up when he hears that there is a vampire in the building. He rushes to his own lab ( lab 5 ), where he keeps his inventions - weapons to fight werewolves, zombies, ghouls, and vampires.

With Uatu's help, Spider-Man is able to subdue Morbius. We later see Morbius, leaving his lab, desperate for a test subject, hoping to quickly develop a cure. He goes down to the sewers to find Dr Connors -  The Lizard ( in his Lizard form).

Thoughts
I thought this was a pretty good issue. We last saw Morbius in Amazing Spider-Man 622 where he was using Spider-Man's blood to create a cure for a werewolf. ( Edit: Actually, we last saw him during Spider-Island, but Spider-Man last saw him in ASM 622) While Uatu didn't really catch my attention, his gadgets and weapons, specifically designed to kill Vampires were pretty impressive.

Obviously, the winner for the issue was the reappearance of Dr Connors. It's been a while since we last saw him. With the Amazing Spider-Man movie coming out, featuring The Lizard as the main villain, I think it was a pretty smart move of Marvel to reintroduce him, in time to make an appearance before the movie possibly.

Anyway, Happy 50th Spidey anniversary...

Venom # 12

Posted by bulletproofsponge 14 February 2012

Since we're a little behind on the Venom reviews, I figured I'd give Adam a hand, ( he's taken over Venom for the time being) and lessen his load a little. So far, the Venom series has had a pretty decent story line. You can read our previous reviews to find out what has been going on. To sum it up though, the Crime Master has threatened to hurt Flash's loved ones if he refuses to help him do a job.

The Story.
Basically, this issue begins with Flash acting as a drunk to get behind the security doors of a club in Vegas. Flash can sense that the symbiote doesn't like whats coming. Once behind the security doors, Flash can no longer control Venom, who's going into rage mode. Venom almost takes full control, trashes all the security guards, and proceeds to kill Toxin, who is apparently being kept there in a tube ( no host). There is no real explanation as to how Toxin got separated from Patrick ( his last known host)

Anyway, Jack O'Lantern shows up, and stops Venom, taking the toxin symbiote with him. Obviously, this does not go too well with Venom. Jack soon finds himself in a very dangerous position with almost no chance of survival. His only chance is to somehow get through to Flash to take control of Venom. Jack warns Flash that the Crime Master will hurt Betty and the rest of Flash's loved ones if anything happens to him.

Flash eventually regains control and lets Jack-O go. He later calls Betty, and breaks up with her, giving some poor excuse. It came across to me that he was breaking up with her to keep her safe ( one of the things that comes with wearing a mask )

The story ends with Flash, sitting with a homeless guy drinking from what looks like a bottle of Jack Daniels. Well, technically, Flash's story ends there. The real story ends with the Red Hulk closing in on Venom, ready to put him back in line.

Thoughts
We're finally getting to see what lots of fans have been waiting for - Flash losing control of the symbiote. Flash has had the symbiote on him for some time now, ever since he stole it from Project Rebirth. More and more we see Flash's hatred manifested in his thoughts. His hate also seems to be feeding Venom a whole lot, as we can see how big Venom gets when fighting Jack-O.

The highlight of this issue for me was the reappearance of Toxin, my favorite symbiote, even though he's just slime at the moment. Whatever plans Crime Master has for Toxin, I'm sure its big. Toxin's first host was a good cop, who at the time was trying to teach his symbiote some good morals. I'd love to see what has become of the symbiote.

From here, it looks like things are definitely going downhill for Flash. I haven't read Venom 13 or 13.1, ( not even a review) but I'm guessing Rulk eventually appears and fixes him up?

Look out for Adams review for the rest of Venom! Cheers.

Carnage USA # 1-3 review

Posted by bulletproofsponge 11 February 2012

If you thought the Carnage mini-series last year was good, you have to read Carnage U.S.A! We are already into the third issue, and I have to say that I am glad as hell that I read this.

Carnage # 1
This issue focuses on the return of Carnage/ Cletus Cassady. The issue starts with the daily lives of the people of a little town- Doverton. In a Meat Packing Plant, we see a worker horrified as the blood from the slaughter starts talking to him. Carnage eventually makes an appearance, stating that he'll take everything from here.

The scene shifts back four days ago when the town sheriff rushes home to his wife and kids, warning them to stay away from the sink holes. He arrives home too late, just in time to witness the carnage symbiote appear from the bathtub taking over his son's body.

At the Avenger's tower, word has gotten around that Carnage is back. By the time the Avengers arrive, Carnage has taken control of everyone living there. The citizens are still conscious of what is taking place, as we see a lady begging the Avengers to protect her baby. Their bodies however, are fully under Cletus' command. Without much effort however, Carnage soon takes over the bodies of all the Avengers except for Spider-Man.

Back at the US Emergency Response Center, a contingency plan is being made seeing that the Avengers signal was cut. We see, that among their options are - Venom, Toxin, Hybrid, Scorn and Anti-Venom.

Carnage USA # 2

This issue starts with Spider-Man fighting his fellow Avengers, all who are being controlled by Carnage.

In another scene, we see Contingency plan A - Scorn. For those who do not know, Scorn is a new character who was born in the Carnage # 5. There is some debate as to whether Scorn is ready for battle as she is still new and requires training. Scorn is a hybrid between symbiote and machine, allowing her to bond with technology.

Next we see Contingency B- the Mercury team. The mercury team are comprised of the four symbiotes (now separated) who once formed Hybrid ( another symbiote thing who bonded with a guy called Scott Washington, from some old stories).  Essentially, the Mercury Team is a group of four special forces guys who are in full control of their symbiotes.

Coming back to Spider-Man, we see that Spider-Man had escaped the fight and joined with a few survivors who made a base outside of Doverton. Among them is the sheriff of Doverton- same one who tried to stop his family from being infected in the first issue. By the end of this issue, Cletus makes a deal with the sheriff's wife. He wants her to kill her husband in order for her kids to be safe with her. She agrees and transforms into her symbiote form.

Carnage USA # 3

At the start of this issue, back up has arrived. The Mercury Team and Scorn make an entrance at the Ralsby Meat Packing Plant - where it all began and send Doppelganger ( yes, he is here too ), who was eating some meat, running away.

The scene changes to Cletus, who is having fun playing pastor at a church, forcing the congregation to pull their own teeth out with pliers. Cletus also proudly tells Capt America, who is visibly trying to resist, that there is no love, boasting how he got the sheriffs wife to kill her husband.

At the safe-house, outside Doverton, where Spider-Man is, the sheriff ( Eric) sees his wife and kids outside the gates. He goes to them, only to be attacked by his wife, who is crying as she turns into her symbiote form. She explains to him that she has to kill him for her to keep the kids. Spider-Man intervenes, but is then attacked by the kids, also in symbiote form. The sheriff then tells his wife to go ahead and kill him.

Carnage, who can tell what is going on, is enraged and leaves the sheriff alive. He takes control of the wife and kids, sending them back to him. He also tells the sheriff that he will eat his kids when they get back.

The Mercury team later realize that the civilians are bulletproof, which comes as good news to their heavy gunner, as long as the symbiote in on them.

Finally, we see Cletus forcing Captain America to kill the Sheriff's kids. Capt America resists and manages to break free for a split second and calls for a drop down for code name 4563.

The final scene shows us Contingency C - Agent Venom.

Thoughts
These three issues have been absolutely fantastic. It's always good to have all the symbiotes having a showdown with one another. Any symbiote fan would absolutely love this mini. I do have a feeling that the Mercury team is going to lose control of their symbiotes though. It is hinted in the third issue, when one of the team members fires on a civillian unintentionally. For all we know, we may somehow get Hybrid back as well!

So far, we have yet to see Scorn in action. She will probably have the last fight with Cletus and lose. At the end of the day, this is Spider-Man's battle. The Avenger's never stood a chance walking into a Carnage town, and neither do most of these other contingency plan guys. ( Except for Venom maybe)

Flash Thompson hasn't faced carnage yet. Unlike Eddie Brock, Flash doesn't know what Carnage is like. As such, this battle could be pretty fatal for him as well.

Amazing Spider-Man 679

Posted by bulletproofsponge 05 February 2012

This issue, in my opinion was both good and bad. It was bad in a sense that, by the end of the issue, the reader ( or myself at least ) is left feeling that absolutely nothing of importance happened in the last two issues. I'll keep the good for after the review.

The Story- I Killed Tomorrow part 2
This story starts exactly where Amazing Spider-Man 678 ends. It starts with Spider-Man preparing for the worst. To his surprise however, the time passes 3.10pm and nothing has happened. He then realizes that the time on the watch must have been 3.10am. With a bonus 12 hours to go, he continued to see what he can do to stop the disaster.

Back at Horizon, Grady is getting tired of the stress and refuses to help Spider-Man anymore. He plans to simply walk into his door, expecting it to return to how it was when he first stepped in earlier that day. When he steps through however, he sees a dead Spider-Man. With that in mind, he goes back to current time, and decides Spider-Man really does need his help.

Spider-Man goes on to do whatever there is to do in the city. Among the things he does is kiss Silver Sable! Well, more like she kissed him after he defused a nuclear bomb they found. Strangely enough, despite defusing the bomb, the future in the door remains a disaster.

Spider-Man continues to do his best to stop the grim future late into the night. Pretty late into the night, Peter gets a call from MJ asking him out to dinner. At first, he refuses, as he's trying to save the world. He then realizes that this may be the end of the world, so he might as well have a last dinner with MJ. ( smart move)

During dinner, the two chat, and MJ reassures him that everything will be alright tomorrow because she believes in Peter Parker to figure it out - not just Spider-Man.

At that point, Peter figures out the problem. He rushes off to Horizon as Peter ( not Spider-Man) and explains to Grady that he had forgotten to do something that day - check the math for Grady's project. When Peter walked through the door, he was absent for a day, thus leaving no one to check Grady's math.

Peter gets to Horizon and tells Grady to shut down his doorway 10 seconds before 3.10am. Grady does as he is told and the future is saved!

The issue ends with Max Model, having his newspaper stolen by a Grady from yesterday while he was not looking.

Thoughts
Like I said at the start, by the end of this issue, the reader is left feeling like nothing of importance ever happened in the last two issues. There were no bad guys at all, just a disaster that Peter caused for himself by not doing what he was supposed to do.

The good part about this issue is that we get to see some of Peter's working relationships. Bringing Grady into the story was a really good idea as it amplifies the character. In the future, we might very well be seeing a little more of Grady, possible as Spider-Man's little helper.

Obviously, my favorite part was Mary Jane reappearing after Spider-Island. Once again, the focus here is that MJ has faith in Peter Parker, not Spider-Man, just like in Spider-Island. (They're definitely trying to go somewhere with this.) What was really great was to see Peter making time to go for a meal with her, just before the end of the world. I mean, wouldn't you want to spend the last few minutes of the end of the world with a friend?

Once again, my favorite artist - Ramos, adds 10 points to story with his art alone! It's a little unfair to comment on the story as I've already read part 2 to this story. ( Sorry for the late review by the way.) I'll just jump right to it.

The Story
It starts with Peter Parker, waking up one morning, most likely after the Daredevil adventure, getting ready for work at Horizons. At work, he was supposed to buddy up with his colleague - Grady Scraps, to check each others math where their new inventions were concerned.

Grady shows Peter his invention - a door that can take you to 'tomorrow.' Grady goes in and snatches tomorrow's newspaper and comes out. Fairly impressed, Peter tries the same, except he walks into a destroyed Manhattan. In the rubble, Peter finds a watch that stopped working at ten after three, thus implying that the catastrophe that caused this damage happened at that time.

Grady explains that the future on the other side of the door portrays what would take place is the person who stepped through went missing for a day. With that in mind, Peter tells Grady that the future must have been destroyed because he failed to warn Spider-Man. He then tells Grady to read up on everything that Spider-Man did in the newspaper he brought back from the 'Good tomorrow,' while he goes to 'tell' Spider-Man.

Peter's first step is to find the FF and the Avengers and ask for their help. Madam Web, however, intervenes and tells him he must do this himself. With Grady's help, Spidey does everything he 'did' in the newspapers. Unfortunately, the future in the door is still grim.

Both Spider-Man and Grady begin to panic as the clock reaches 3.10pm. The issue simply ends with Spider-Man bracing himself for the worst as the clock striking 3.10pm.

Thoughts
Up to this point, the story seems pretty good. Most would probably wonder how Spider-Man is going to get out of this sticky situation. The real moral of the story here is - do not meddle with the future. Honestly, you'd think there were enough movies out there to teach a person that by now.

My favorite scene in the issue however was of Peter Parker, taking a stroll to work in the city, meeting and helping others like a normal person instead of swinging off to work. Really great idea to fit that in.

Daredevil # 8

Daredevil!, The Man without Fear, and one of my favorite characters. In the last issue of Spider-Man, Spidey went to DD to get help, as he was convinced that the Black Cat was innocent of stealing the holographic cell phone.

The Story

At the start of the issue, we see that Matt Murdock's partner - Nelson, taking some care of some case where Matt's father was buried.

This issue starts right where the last left off - Spider-Man being electrocuted by the Black Cat. DD gets out of the rubble and stops her. She does mention that she had no intention to kill him, but rather hurt him badly. She is under the impression that Spider-Man turned her in because she would not sleep with him. (Typical). She does seem to fancy the new masked vigilante though - DD.

Once Spider-Man is back on his feet though, he explains that they were both set up. The three head towards the home of Wasserschmidt - the inventor of the stolen device. Wasserschmidt, scared to death explains how he had faked the robbery, and had actually stolen it himself, so that he could sell it for more on the black market.

As they speak, DD smells a drug in Wasserschmidt's sweat. He concludes that the man has 10 minutes to live. With that Spidey rushes him to the hospital, while DD and Cat go to retrieve the holographic device.

DD and Cat spilt up and DD eventually finds it. Unfortunately, he still seems dissatisfied as he didn't find out who framed Spider-Man and the Black Cat. Cat, distracts DD by kissing him and making out on the roof. This eventaully leads to DD's bedroom where they do some funny things ;) They are interrupted however by Nelson, who tell's DD that his dad's body is missing.

Unknown to DD, Black Cat met the culprit who framed her while she had split up from him. Apparently, she was framed, so that she would 're-steal' the device, giving the crook a chance to speak with her in private. Cat is offered a new job - the custody of Matt Murdock, to which she would get a handsome reward.

Thoughts
Fairly okay issue. Being a Daredevil book, the focus is obviously more on DD. Spider-Man plays a rather tiny role in the story. As far as the Black Cat is concerned, the panels are drawn in such a way that the reader automatically assumes Felicia has accepted the offer - thus seducing DD, as the first step in her new job. Somehow, I'm not so sure she has actually accepted the offer though, as we all know that Felicia is a playful girl. She may very well be seducing DD for the hell of it, and may very well turn things around.

Welcome!
