Daredevil # 8

Posted by bulletproofsponge 28 January 2012

Daredevil!, The Man without Fear, and one of my favorite characters. In the last issue of Spider-Man, Spidey went to DD to get help, as he was convinced that the Black Cat was innocent of stealing the holographic cell phone.

The Story

At the start of the issue, we see that Matt Murdock's partner - Nelson, taking some care of some case where Matt's father was buried.

This issue starts right where the last left off - Spider-Man being electrocuted by the Black Cat. DD gets out of the rubble and stops her. She does mention that she had no intention to kill him, but rather hurt him badly. She is under the impression that Spider-Man turned her in because she would not sleep with him. (Typical). She does seem to fancy the new masked vigilante though - DD.

Once Spider-Man is back on his feet though, he explains that they were both set up. The three head towards the home of Wasserschmidt - the inventor of the stolen device. Wasserschmidt, scared to death explains how he had faked the robbery, and had actually stolen it himself, so that he could sell it for more on the black market.

As they speak, DD smells a drug in Wasserschmidt's sweat. He concludes that the man has 10 minutes to live. With that Spidey rushes him to the hospital, while DD and Cat go to retrieve the holographic device.

DD and Cat spilt up and DD eventually finds it. Unfortunately, he still seems dissatisfied as he didn't find out who framed Spider-Man and the Black Cat. Cat, distracts DD by kissing him and making out on the roof. This eventaully leads to DD's bedroom where they do some funny things ;) They are interrupted however by Nelson, who tell's DD that his dad's body is missing.

Unknown to DD, Black Cat met the culprit who framed her while she had split up from him. Apparently, she was framed, so that she would 're-steal' the device, giving the crook a chance to speak with her in private. Cat is offered a new job - the custody of Matt Murdock, to which she would get a handsome reward.

Thoughts
Fairly okay issue. Being a Daredevil book, the focus is obviously more on DD. Spider-Man plays a rather tiny role in the story. As far as the Black Cat is concerned, the panels are drawn in such a way that the reader automatically assumes Felicia has accepted the offer - thus seducing DD, as the first step in her new job. Somehow, I'm not so sure she has actually accepted the offer though, as we all know that Felicia is a playful girl. She may very well be seducing DD for the hell of it, and may very well turn things around.

Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Black Cat #2 Review

Posted by matthewaos 18 September 2010

Ugh... The story continues but I'm not that interested anymore to be honest. Not that it's a bad story, but this issue didn't make me curious as to what will happen next month. Kind of dissapointed there are two issues more instead of one.

The Story

The Black Cat continues "collecting" what the kidnapper of her mom says. His associate discovers that all three items have one thing in common: They belonged to the Kravinoff family someday and that guy is maybe some kind of Kraven stalker or whatever.

Spider-Man arrives, convinced that Black Cat is robbing everyone, trying to stop her, but she avoids him.

Though at the end the cliffhanger is wierd... It seems that her mother is working with this guy or something?

Anyway. I am not impressed with this issue, but there are two issues more left. I hope that things will get better.

The many loves of the Amazing Spider-Man

Posted by bps 12 May 2010

Probably the first thing that stands out about this issue is its absolutely unreal cover. As can be seen, the cover features four women previously in Peter Parker's life, all, posing strangely. Regardless, this issue is split into three interesting stories.

First story
The issue starts several years ago with Spider-Man complaining about his financial life. He complains about his current financial situation and considers finding a full-time job. While chatting with a homeless guy, he notices that there is a bank robbery taking place.

Upon entering the bank, he sees that the Black Cat is busy fighting off a giant robot. Spider-Man comes to save her just before she gets crushed. Strangely enough, the robot malfunctions soon after Spider-Man arrives.

The two then proceed to stop the main crook, some noob who is using his newly learnt magical abilities to rob the bank. Spider-Man jumps on the crook as he is casting a spell, causing some of the magic to zap Spider-Man. Strangely, there are no side effects. The crook is taken to jail and the two split.

When Peter returns to his apartment, all the money from the bank magically appear in his room. As Aunt May starts coming in, he tries to throw it out the window. Magically, the money reappears in his room again. With no choice, Spider-Man bags the cash and takes it to the bank. The cash however continues to stick to him - literally.

Spider-Man asks Felicia for help, who cant stop staring at the cash. The two decide to break the magic man out of jail to get him to break the spell. Upon the breaking him free, the magic man, who prefers to call himself the Occultist, casts another spell, creating a giant money monster. Not thinking through his plan properly, the money monster, made of paper doesn't really hurt anyone. Spider-Man knocks the crook out and everything is back to normal.

Spider-Man is tempted to steal some of the cash lying around, but decides not to in the end. He does however give a little bit to the homeless guy he was talking to at the start.

Second Story
This story is about Carlie who just sent Peter home after they're long awaited date, due to a headache. This story is supposed to take place during Amazing Spider-Man 627. As she sits in her office, she notices an article that takes her back a couple of years, when she was a kid.

Carlie's father did not want to leave his daughter home alone. As such, he brought her to his work place - the police hq. Apparently Gwen Stacey was also brought to the police station. The two are left alone in Captain Stacey's office. Extremely bored, they decide to look through Captain Stacey's things. They come across a case about the murder of young girls. In the midst of looking through the pictures, they discover that teh murdered girls are all dressed to look younger, like someone else.

They eventually get caught and taken out of the room. The girls explain what they found, and although they did something illegal, it apparently helped to solve the case. Carlie is told that one day, she might be able to do police work.

Third Story
The final story is about Mary Jane, the girl who almost married Spider-Man. (But we all know what really happened). This short story takes place after MJ returns to New York. She is now famous, and stalked by all. Anyhow, MJ gets into her limo and quickly changes her clothing and washes her make up to give her a simple look. Apparently she wants to audition at the cattle call, - a small time soap opera audition I suppose.

Midway however, there is a traffic jam taking place due to Spider-Man fighting Lady Stilt-Man. She decides to get out of the car and walk the rest of the way. Anyway, she goes in with the alias Emma Holmes, wearing a black wig and is called to show what she's got. Thinking about Peter as she acts, her emotions are fully visible. Everyone is extremely impressed with her acting. Unfortunately however, she is too beautiful for the part, as they need a simpler look.

After the audition, she heads over to her book signing session at the bookstore. There she sees a book of Spider-Man photos taken by Peter, published sometime back. It is now selling for only $3.99. She contemplates calling him for a while, but decides she has to move on. The final panel shows MJ enjoying all the glamour and attention, yet she is unsure if this is what she really wants.

Thoughts
Overall, all three were pretty good stories. I especially enjoyed the art in the first story. Black Cat and Spider-Man are made to look a lot younger. The art also compliments Cat's cheeky behaviour. Seeing Gwen in the comics again was also good for a change. As for Mary Jane's story, it isn't anything new. We all know she's torn between two worlds and is living in denial about her feelings for Peter.

Amazing Spider-man 612

Posted by bps 19 November 2009

The story is divided in two stories. In my opinion, the comic makes the reader feel that he is back in the 1960's ( At least the first story does). Reason for this being that the art in the comic is very much like the art in the 1960's Spider-man cartoon. Others have commented that the art is very 'Vertigo' Styled.

It is implied that the first story takes place soon after Spider-man has spent some time with the Avengers. This could possibly be in New Avengers 59 , or Ms Marvel 47.
Before continuing, you may want to catch the preview for this issue here.

First story
At the beginning, focus is mainly on Electro and what he has been going through in more recent times. Such include a dysfunction in his powers, searching for a cure, and being treated like a freak by everyone else. Thankfully he is seen in this comic, mostly without his 'mask.'

In the meantime we find that Dexter Bennet, owner of the DB ( former Daily bugle ) is requesting a bail out for his dying company. Electro, tired of being accused a criminal is set on exposing to the public the real criminal - big shots like Dexter Bennet who is using the taxpayers money to bail out the DB.

Coming back to Peter, we learn that Peter never got drunk in Amazing Spider-Man 600, yet, he had a hangover the day after and was unable to remember what happened - i.e. his one night stand with Michelle. He was unknowingly drinking apple ginger ale the whole time, not champagne.

Anyhow, Peter finds out eventually from Michelle that Electro has gained the trust of the people and is protesting against Bennet. Spider-man obviously is not about to let the villain wonder around New York and attempts to stop him. Surprisingly, Electro seems to be able to counter attack all of Spider-man's moves. Spider-man is thrown down into the angry mob, who think Spider-man is Bennet's hired gun against Electro.

Second Story
The second story features Mary Jane, Black Cat, and Norah. Unfortunately, the art for this story has to be gross. This story focuses on Spider-man and the Black Cat. Peter wonder's where his relationship with Felicia is going as she does not really care about anything he does "out of the suit."

While trying to make some conversation with Felicia, Spider-man mentions that he bumped into his ex that morning. His Parker luck did not help him too much there though. As much as Spider-man fans would want to see Mary Jane in a comic, the art simply throws you off. I must highlight the terrible art.

Check out the ugly Peter Parker and Mary Jane below

This second story could be so much better if the art was good. It ends with Peter meeting someone in the office that sounds and smells like the Black Cat, but goes by the name Ashley Moon. Not to mention causes him to have some 'Bad Luck.'

The only real relationship that is visible between the Black Cat and this Ashley Moon are the green eyes. It is highly possible that Felicia is simply wearing a wig. Nonetheless, as I have pointed out before, Felicia, normally has blue eyes.Read this article I wrote a while back.

Image below: Ashley Moon

Ever since Amazing Spider-Man 606, the Black Cat has suddenly had blue eyes, which bothers me particularly because the green eyes are supposed to be one of the ways to differentiate Mary Jane when she is drawn by different artists. For eg, no one would ever know that it was Mary Jane in the panel above if it were not for her green eyes.

Now apparently the green eyes are what connects Ashley Moon to Felicia. Apart from this, Norah is also featured in this story, almost hiding none of her mixed feelings toward Peter.

Personal Thoughts
As in the review for Amazing Spider-Man 611, I am lacking any personal insight to this comic as the art is just too distracting. Overall, very disappointing in my opinion. Very poor story and art. I need to read some old Spider-man comics.

The first story was reasonably fine. The story was nothing special, nonetheless it is building the foundation for a good story that we are not yet seeing. Electro's character is magnified here, providing a refreshing new view on his character.

As far as the second story is concerned, if you want to read a good story with the Black Cat, do not read this. If there is anything to like about this comic is that we can pretty much confirm Spidey still has not let go of Mary Jane. Unfortunately enough, the sudden appearance of this Ashley Moon has once again blank out all hopes of Peter getting back with Mary Jane anytime soon.

Could it be possible that this is Mephisto's idea of giving Peter a 'chance at happiness?' After all, he is the devil, and I am certain that the devil would not want a happy clean marriage ahead for Peter Parker. So instead, he decides to keep putting sluts in Peter's way to keep him temporarily "happy." Any thoughts?

Marvel Divas - Black Cat

Posted by bps 02 November 2009

Okay. Solely because of the Felicia's appearance in Amazing Spider-man # 606, I began following the recent Marvel Divas miniseries. Since then, there have been several entries regarding some thoughts towards Felicia - the Black Cat.

In this final entry, for Marvel Divas, I will make my final opinions on the Black Cat, judging from the Marvel Divas miniseries.

In the 'More thoughts on the Black Cat # 1, it was implied to the readers, like myself that Felicia had gone back to stealing jewels as part of the way she would raise funds to open Cat's Eye Investigation.
Marvel Divas # 4 explains how exactly, Felicia managed to obtain the funds to open her little business. See the panel below.

And so here we see Felicia, borrowing money from the King Pin in order to open her business. I really do not see why she did not just borrow from Puma, who was willing to give her the money.

Now, the question, of which Spider-man never got the answer still remains. Who was it that the Black Cat was working for when she bumped into Spider-man.

Felicia never wanted to tell Spidey who it was she was working for. Could it be because she had made some kind of deal with Fisk? Could it be possible that Felicia's boss, from the panel below is in fact the King Pin?

Spidey would not really like that if he found out now would he?

More thoughts on Black Cat # 2

Posted by bps 09 October 2009

This is my second entry in regards to some thoughts on the Black Cat. The first can be found here. Just to pen down more things about the Black Cat that I found rather interesting. From reading Marvel Diva's # 2, its pretty clear that Felicia can remember that she used to date Peter Parker - a photographer.

Check out the image below.

At the same time, we know that she still remembers dating Spider-man, but is unable to recall his secret identity ( ASM # 606 ). Weird..

Mephisto must have really messed with her brain when he did the mind wipe.

On another note, its much more refreshing to read Felicia in Marvel Divas then it is in Amazing Spider-man. In ASM, she's like a care free playgirl. In Marvel Divas its different. She is portrayed as a more mature character. She basically wants to reopen Cat eye investigation, but does not have the funds. She is very hesitant to resort to stealing. Even more interesting is that Puma knew that all along (while dating her), that she still carried a soft spot for Spidey.

Amazing Spider-man # 607 review

Posted by bps 02 October 2009

Okay, I feel like I'm the last person on earth to get a hold of this comic. But anyway, here is my review. Much to my disliking, the art changes halfway through the issue. The story is not fantastic, but the point is made. I rate is 5/10. There is no appearance of Mary Jane here, So do not be expecting it. This comic is kind of " not all ages" if you ask me. Apparently, Marvel is changing Spider-man's character since BND. (not to mention a bunch of other characters as well)

Amazing Spider-man 607 = a hot issue.
Depending on what you look for in ASM comics, it could be disappointing as well. I come under this category.

What happens in the issue? - the cover page is enough to figure out
Unfortunately, this whole issues is about nothing more than Spider-man getting laid, or should I say "Played". There is a small part of the extremely dumb villian from issue # 606 aka Diablo.

The first scene is of the two 'flirt birds' ( they are not love birds okay ) in bed. Apparently, the black cat told Spider-man she was gonna break into a hotel room, and asked him to come catch her. * how corny is that* I must admit that throughout this issue, she does have some pretty good lines ( all very suggestive) that explain clearly why Spider-man is crazy about her.

We all know that Cat does not want to know Spider-man's identity this time. As such, they have sex in pitch dark, in a hotel room that we later find out belongs to some "newly weds." Felicia promises not to look at his face.

Spider-man later checks up on Bennet and learns who the dead guy in Bennet's place is. (issue#606) Black Cat and Spider-man track down Diablo, who's master evil plan I will not mention, partly because it is so stupid.I keep laughing at every time I think about it.

ps. I think Diablo was just inserted into the issue so there would be some kind of story to it besides "Black Cat wants Spider-man."

We do learn that Mrs. Kraven the hunter is going to play an interesting role in time to come. This would be the second time she is approaching a villian at the end of the issue, the first being Chameleon in # 604. She is definitely cooking something bad for spider-man. It would be interesting to see what is in store.

Jonah Jameson also makes a 'guest appearance' after seemingly disappeared for a few issues.

The real moral of the story is Spider-man is back with the Cat for lotsa sex, more than once a day, as we can see from the scan below.

Personally, I know this relationship can't last. I give it 5-6 issues, and I'm being gracious. Peter is making a huge mistake, and I am not particularly a fan of what is taking place in the ASM comics. For one thing, she is hiding some important facts like - who she's working for. The image above explains everything. Including Peter knowing he is in for some bad news soon.

I would have been extremely disappointed in this comic if it were not for this scene below in issue # 605, that was most disappointing.

I strongly support the Peter/MJ marriage, and this is not how I was hoping things would turn out. But for those who like this kinda thing, go get yourself an issue!

Looking forward to review the Clone Saga # 1, in which Peter and MJ are married. As soon as I get my hands on the comic..

In issue # 606, Black Cat has obviously gone through some character regression. For eg. She is back to stealing jewels.

Why is she back to stealing Jewels?

Well, in Marvel Diva's it seems that Black Cat wanted to set up some business called Cats eye investigation.

Unfortunately, she did not have the money. Puma wanted to finance her, but thanks to her female ego, she did not want to take it.

My opinion is that she is a thief again, trying to steal enough jewels to start her little business.

Read this, from Marvel Divas:

and this from ASM #606

Another strange thing I noticed in ASM # 606. Is that Felicia had green eyes. Doesn't she normally have blue eyes. Here is an image from Marvel Divas vs the picture of Black Cat from ASM # 606

Image from marvel divas: Blue eyes

Image from ASM # 606 : green eyes

not to mention, in the Amazing Spider-Man #607 coverpage she has blue eyes as well

Who is the Black Cat?
Felicia Hardy. She is hot, very shallow, loves Spider-man, but not Peter Parker. At one point she was beginning to change her character to on that actually cares. At current, she's forgotten who Spider-man's secret identity is ( How is that even possible?) and it appears she is back to her old self.

In this comic, she denotes Spidey as "only good in the sack." That pretty much explains a bit about their past now doesn't it? Spider-man used to date her until she found out his identity and broke up. As I mentioned, she was, and is not into Peter Parker. She is a good crook.

Why does Peter like her?
Why wouldn't he? She's hot, smooth, sexy, and wants him. Unfortunately, there isn't much more to the Black Cat apart from her physical aspect. Although there are times in past comics where she does actually care about Spider-man.

Spoiler Summary

It starts, as in the preview, with Madam Web. Peter, in the meantime is having problems with the girls - Michelle, Norah, and MJ. MJ only had good intentions of breaking some ice with Peter. The preview explains what happened there. He's becoming a lil like archie now don't you think?

Next scene, Spider-man is taking out his frustrations on a poor mugger. When more bad luck fall upon him... before he can mention" Brand New Day." How queer. At this seen, the artists chooses to zoom in on a gargoyle/ demon type statue. Interesting huh?

When he bumps into the Black Cat. She is on a 'mission' of some sort. They chat about their previous relationship. Apparently Peter's breath gets choppy when he's horny and the Black Cat's breath get choppy when she tells the truth. Whatever.. this is useful info to understand image I posted below

We find out that the place they are breaking into belongs to Dexter Bennet. We find a 'stoned' corpse in his house and then *boom* out comes some felon called Diablo. There is an explosion in the place and Spider-man jumps out.

It still bugs me as to what happened to the bad guy. But the next thing we know, Black cat walks out just fine and walks off with a book.

Do not forget, the Black Cat is still some kind of a bad guy. She may have something to do with it.

Anyway, Spider-man gets all dramatic and chases after her. Looks like he forgot about the bad guy too. DUMB. It ends with Peter knowing fully well he shouldn't be kissing Felicia. But after the terrible day he's just had, he decides to give in to his body, and face whatever happens next.

Also, this whole Spidey/ Black cat romance in being recorded on tv.. Live. And guess who sees it.

Check out the scene below.

This issue is all about Spider-man not using his brain. He just foolishly falls for the Black Cats sex appeal =p Obviously Spider-man is gonna regret this later on. We'll see what happens.

It is sad for MJ though. She is the only one who really loves Peter, besides Aunt May. If I hadn't read what MJ was doing in LA in Amazing Spider-Man # 605, I would not like this issue. But since Mary Jane could date someone else. I think Peter should be allowed this dance.

Just try reading this comic without thinking about One More Day.
